1g Problems

I did a search and came up with nothing. Im sure this topic has been covered before so any help would be a huge help.

My buddy just recently bought a 91 Laser turbo, it seems that it stops making boost after 5000 RPM. It has a front mount and an aftermarket blow off, could any of these be the culprit?

Do a boost leak test.

also check for shaft play.

Hey thanks! Ill check for all those things. This laser has been jerry rigged to the max, so it could be any of those things mentioned in the link.

What else could it be? If it stops boosting after a certain RPM, I would assume a boost leak.

I'm pretty sure that it is either a boost leak or something is wrong with the turbo. Maybe it needs rebuilt, how many miles are on it?

Like 180,000 thats a ballpark estimate. It still has the stock 14b on it.

yeah because the amount of boost going through maybe maxed at that certain point.. just try to retighten all the clamps and spray starter fluid on the joints and see if there is any bubbles...

I tried what you said but it still just dumps the boost at 9lbs. You can feel the boost carry through to about 4800RPM then it just dumps. Its like it Just turned into a N/A car. It jerks foward right when it lets off.

Maybe a bad boost controller also Or a leak in the vaccume lines...

wastegate accidently opening early so it wont hit its max 14psi boost?

I just remember a mechanic sayin he could tie it open so you cant boost at all for my buddys new engine break in period. Something to look at perhapse?

Thats what it was, the waste gate was completely fucked. We replaced it and it runs great now! Thanks!!!
