checking your timing isnt that difficult it just is gonna take some time unles you have a timing light. You can either use a timing light or check the marks which means doing everything you would when changing the belt. But Im gonna say you probably just have a noisy motor and will need to set the knock multilier table for low and mid rpm higher, i would turn up the high table just incase its real knock. But i doubt it is.
