Intake temps

I was reading this article Third-Gen Mitsubishi Eclipse GT - Tech - Sport Compact Car Magazine and noticed the difference in intake temps After they switched to a cai and I was wondering.. would it make a difference if we could fab up something made from the same plastic are original intakes are made of to put on the outside of the intake to keep it from absorbing the heat? Comments?

An intake is not going to make any noticeable difference. Buy a name brand or fab up your own. In the end you'll still yield the same results.

The only reason I asked is cause people make such big deal about hot air and cold air.

The idea is to get Colder, more dense air, but with the gains it really doesn't matter on an N/A car. Get whatever fits you well financially. Get a name brand for their sticker, or get some ebay junk.

If you are looking for good gains, you're going to have to get rid of those precats with a GOOD set of headers.

This topic has already been covered in more detail then you can imagine. Please read General intake questions, answered. for all the information you need.

EDIT : It looks like the graph I wanted you to reference is not working. The key point is that it makes no appreciable difference once the car starts moving. With either a WAI or CAI, just cut out the fake vents on that side and they will perform nearly identical for everyday driving.
