What is your biggest beef with your Eclipse?
I asked this question of the Galant forum and got a lot of interesting responces. I wonder if the Eclipse owners have the same issues. At the minute my car doesn't have any mechanical quirks, but in the past has had issues with shaking at high speeds. The one thing I can't do anything about is the cramped position of my left leg due to the dead pedal position. See Galant thread to see what Galant owners complain about. What is your biggest beef with your Eclipse?

Sometimes I wish I got a 5 speed, but other times I am glad for that auto. So I dunno. The price I paid maybe.

my biggest beef with my eclipse is...
that the previous owner decided to test the strength of the rims and dented the front passenger side and slightly tore the balljoint. that and the previously installed altezzas that have since been replaced. oh and don't forget about the 10mm wider tires in the rear. and that there weren't any turbo models. and the aftermarket support taking so long to kick in. but i do like the fact that i now have more displacement than a 2L soda bottle.

My complaints?
cupholder location, apolstry on my damn seats (looks like a greyhound bus...), the crappy stock sound system and it's pain in the ass approach to wiring, stock shift knob not easily supporting aftermarket knobs, that horrible horrible orange color, and the fact that mitsubishi simply refuses to put turbochargers into model cars. also that annoying tick-tick-tick sound from the engine...ahhh!!! oh and that wheel gap....ugh. gapother than that I'm really happy with my car, especially because it can take boost so damn well (4cyl) |

I can't compain much about my car considering what I paid for it. I kinda figured it was going to have some problems, as Chrysler owned it before me. I'm starting to learn what they used it for
My major problems/bitches include...... -Clutch went at 3200 miles, I think the salesman ran the shit out of it. Was replaced for free. -My suspension has tore up two sets of tires in the same exact ways, including my new BFG G-Force KDWs. I'm putting in a TEIN SS setup anyhow so it doesn't matter. - That fucking cup holder! AARRRRRRR -Those good old front rotors, they warped in the first 20,000 miles. Like I said, I didn't pay much for it, and all these things are getting replaced or have been upgraded already. So it realy don't matter anyway.

what mitsubishi should do is take a large group of us, and let us give their designer's ideas/demands on what to make the car.
It would cost more, but would definitely make more money if advertised properly.... which the 3g's were NOT up until like, 2 months ago ("chick magnet" commercial, for example) what's up with that auxiliary cup holder in the center console?! does anyone USE that? that's where my damn elbow goes when I'm shifting! |

My main complaint is that aftermarket parts makers pretty much wrote our cars off from the beginning and barely made shit for it. There's more now than there was a couple years ago but nothing like the loving other cars get.

The crappy ass refinement of the interior. The fact that there is no insulation between key points in the car between the interior and exterior (ala the door panels). And the crappy performance in cold weather.

That could be dangerous. My beefs with the car are the lousy stock clutch and rotors and the ever-malfunctioning sunroof. Overall though, I'm VERY happy with the car and still love taking it for a spin. |

1. Sporty
2. Slow/Fat 3. Cup holder position 4. Not enough companies making good quality performance products 5. Slow/Fat 6. I've got the slowest car in the family 7. Most aftermarket mods dont do shit unless you spend $4k + 8. It was too expensive, not worth $21,000 new 9. Squeaks and rattles 10. Did I mention Slow/Fat? Thats it for now. The reasons I'm getting rid of it once it's paid off

The only thing that bugs me the most is the squeaking and rattling.

2. I wanted a newer car at the time 3. Didn't know much about imports. (Used to drive a mustang GT, and a Z28 before that.) But I still live my car. I'll never get rid of it. I've been drivin it for 3 years strong now. |

The only complaint I have is lack of factory aftermarket support.
I wish there were more upgrade options available from Mitsubishi, so that as you add mods to your car, you're not steadily chipping away what's warranted/not warranted. Look at all the things that area available on the EVO. With that in mind, how hard would it be for Mitsu to offer a Brembo brake upgrade and have it covered under warranty? Of course I would have also opted for a factory turbo kit if one was available. Things like that would make an assload of points with me. Not just on this car, but also with regards to future car purchases. I remember when manufacturers treat me right, and I damn well remember when they try to screw me. Those things are big factors when it comes time to choose my next vehicle. Other than that, I'm currently very happy with my car. Of course I've also spent a considerable amount of cash getting it where it is performance wise. |

Impulse buy, I didn't know that much about mitsu cars. I liked the look off the car performce was good. It's no vett, but it's also less than half the price so it's all good. After driving the car for 8 months now some things stand out.
1. The manual trans shifts like shit, 1st and reverse require a fine art to engauge. 2. under hard accleration you will miss 2nd gear because the bitch will just grind. 3. At 22,000 miles 3rd and 5th gear syncros took a shit. Glad it was under waranty. 4. The high cost of mods for this car compaired to other imports and domestic mucle cars. These are the gripes I have with this car , however the car is fun to drive. I comute 70 miles a day. This car is a hell of alot more fun to drive than my 04 Grandcherokee or my 02 f150 was. My .02 cents. |

My dash light dimmer switch has NEVER worked and no one can figure out why.
The tick from the engine sucks. The cupholders blow. The cloth seats are not very comfortable on long drives. The interior just generally feels cheaper than other cars in the class. The gearbox is not as precise as I'd like (I am gonna get flamed for this, but my Honda five speed kicked the Mitsu's ass any day). The aftermarket for our cars sucks. You would think that by now, Mitsu would be able to make a little bit stiffer convertible than what we ended up with. The thing feels like pieces are gonna fall off when I hit a bump... The stock sound system is crap and the wiring for it is a bitch to work with. All of that said, I still love to drive it and am starting to mod it (after four years). |

Cupholders? You have more than one?!
3.6 turns lock to lock on the steering wheel, resulting in a 36' turn radius on the GT is F'ing pathetic. One or the other is bad, both is unacceptable |

![]() Also I guess, I bought the Premium Package Sporty and I wish that it had a way to disable TCL in the cabin without pulling the fuse and taking ABS with it

horrible turning radius, 1st and reverse gears are a pain to get into, cheap interior, not rwd, and last but not least, the horrible, horrible wheel hop.

I like the cupholder posistion actually. Put a 20oz. coke in there and its sits perfectly that you can use it as an arm rest.
Whoever mentioned the bolts fusing with rust... good call sir. I'm actually waiting for Monday to come right now so I can go pick up the new bolts i ordered cause when I took my front bumper off, 5 of the bolt heads snapped off. Everyone keeps mentioning 1st and reverse... those are fine for me... my eclipse seems to not enjoy hitting 3rd gear..lol Ill be taking off.. and then when I goto 3rd it doesnt go, I have to quit pushing it up and do it again real quick.. fucked up. (Would a Spec stage 1 fix this?)

i mentioned rust because fuck, endlinks on an 00 that was in 4 chicago winters were fucking hell to get off. i had to to cut his exhaust into peices then grind the bolts then pry the flanges apart. a foglamp burnt out and we had to drill out a screw.
rust owns us in chicago. atleast toyota had the foresight to use stainless on some of the exhaust parts like flanges and nuts...but not the god damned bolts on the cat! |

biggest gripe's gotta be the cupholder being right in the way when shifting...
plus the cost of pretty much all the parts - OEM or aftermarket as for the spyder (what I drive), the size of the trunk doesn't bother me - I didn't get a convertible to haul luggage for a family of 4. and as far as the body structure, it seems pretty stiff to me - much more rigid and I think I'd probably have lost teeth from potholes... OH...and why in the hell do they not just throw in the aluminum fuel door? that plastic thing looks like poo |

Besides for insurance purpose, the rear seats dont even exist, so I took them out and put 2 12 inch subs n amp, fingure might as well do something with the empty space, I wish it could be the Aussie model with bigger engine... but I dunno got it's ups and downs, but the relationship is going well...

I'm pretty happy with my car. I agree with everybody else about the stupid cupholder. Anything bigger than a regular sized drink at a fast food place gets in the way. So I have my passenger hold my drinks. I guess I'm either pretty lucky or I don't brake hard because my car has 40XXX and my rotors dont seem to be warped and my second gear doesn't grind hardly at all. I redid my suspension so it handles well, I'm going FI soon so it'll be fast, so all in all I like my car a lot. I do wish we had more after market support for our cars and I wish other people would read up a little and not kick our cars to the curb so quickly. On the other hand I'm gonna like the fact that I'm gonna have a total sleeper on my hands.

Hmmm i love my car too, but i would say my beefs are:
-Wheel Well Gap -1st,2nd,and R gears tend to grind i only notice it when its cold tho -Trash/Coin holder oops i mean CUP HOLDER -The i guess it suppose to be a shelf to top off my trunk, when ever i open up my hatch it falls off.... -I found out the hard way that 01 gs 5spd didnt not have ABS shouldnt rely on them anyways Quick question is it the 01 GS 5spd or all Eclipses dont have abs ? please dont flame Other than that you guy gotta admit we have some uber seksi cars aslong as they are clean and painted nothing is perfect but i think my car comes close as far as reliability. |
