Can anyone post up detailed instructions on mounting the 6G72 to a stand. Im not finding it in the service manual, and the instructions that come with it must have been printed by Ikea (lack of detail).
Also, can you mount a fully assembled motor? Im coming across conflicting results. Wouldnt the timing belt need to be installed properly to prevent internal collision when rotating the engine (assuming its mounted to the cranksaft). Or can you mount and stand a block only?
Youll have to go get somelonger bolts to do it but I just mounted my spare to the tranny mounting bot holes. Thats how Ive done it on every other motor Ive mounted. Ill take pics.
Ok, now Im seeing that the flywheel was removed in your pics. Is it possilbe to mount it with the flywheel installed. If not, I know I need a tool to hold the flywheel in place while I unbolt it, is that a "dealer only" tool, or does the average autozone rent it out?

Your over complicating things. Its not a big deal, just zip off your flywheel bolts and mount the engine on the stand using the proper bolts in the bellhousing. There are no special tools needed bud
Yeah I guess I took that for granted again. Yeah it may be helpfull to have a buddy put a breaker bar on the crank bolt in front while you take off the flywheel
For those of you that don't have air tools, even some of those electric impact wrenches would come in handy. There not too expensive and you don't need an expensive air compressor to power them :yesway: Just a thought
Got it up and mounted. Xull, I ended up using a 1/2 in breaker bar socket in the crank pulley and had a friend hold it for me, worked like a charm.
Also, was I correct in that one of the flywheels bolts is a different size from the rest? I didnt know if it was one that had started to strip or was a speial bolt. I got it off anyway, but was curious. I thought I remember reading something about a special size bolt that people were having problems with after they ordered the Fidanza flywheels.
Thanks guys. I'll be dropping back into this thread as more questions arise while I work on the motor.

The stock flywheel is a two peice design, and the fidanza used to need to reuse the stock center section. The bolts other people were having trouble with are the ones that hold the two peices of the flywheel together. However, I think fidanza might make a one peice flywheel now, but I am not certain.

You have to strip the transmission side down to the crank shaft.
(Don't mind the motor mount bolted to the flywheel in this picture) this picture is to demonstarte that you need to remove those center bolts on the flywheel to remove it from the tranny side of the engine
For the most part you can assemble the entire engine out of the car minus the power steering & accesory pulleys & belts
If you have an AT, then you want to put the crank pulley on after you put it back in the car if you leave the tranny in. If you have a MT, since your putting the entire drive train back in, the crank pulley clears.
