All I can think listening to those sound clips is, "Damn...that car has headers? You could have fooled me!"
While I'm sure different header designs do make a difference in the sound, I doubt that they make a HUGE difference. Whether there's a cat or not (or HFC), and what catback, diameter of exhaust, muffler, etc. would make a bigger difference, I'd say. I say this because EVERY 3G I've heard in person that has headers is loud as balls. Kris's, mine, a couple others at random meets...we're all loud as hell. I can't say I really mind the sound of my car now but it sure isn't "stealthy" - my wife tells me our cat perks up and starts looking for me to come in the door when I'm still 3-4 blocks away from home. A neighbor/friend from work down the street always knows when I'm headed out somewhere or coming home. I think the muffler and 3" exhaust he's using with the RPW headers are silencing them quite a bit. I'd be curious to see what they sound like with the Invidia - to see if they're loud as balls also or if the RPW headers really are that much quieter. |

Not to go off topic but what did you do to your front turns. Cause i dont know if im the only one that saw this or if i just have never seen it before but it looks alot like you have 3 turns on each side. |

Unlike 99% of people here, when I upgrade my exhaust I want to keep it on the quieter side of things. That clip from inside the car makes me want RPW headers REALLY bad! But how loud is it?
I know you said it's fairly quiet except at WOT, how bout day to day like stop/go or crusing the freeway? I have a 35 min. highway commute everyday and my old car would give me a headache from the noise. |

I have just successfully installed my rpw long tube headers on a gts. my friend has a '00 GT boosted but doesn't post on here. he helped me with the install and it took us over 24 hrs with running to part stores and so on. he also eliminated all my cats in the process. not to mention someone unbolted a bolt to the area where the antifreeze just spilled all over me!
Anyway, AEM CAI and Magnaflow cat-back setup (minus all 3 cats). Sound? LOUD! My friend said its only going to get louder. I think it sounds like a ferrari at rev but even 2-3k its raspy. I probably should have went with a HFC and left at least one of them in there. I can tell a huge increase in throttle response and more power at higher rpms. my friend sold me the rpw headers new for $250! Not to mention i got a friend to buy them for me as a gift :-) Sound / HP/TQ numbers soon!

Agreed quicksilver. I have the same setup, but I also have a HFC. I definitely hear rasp, but usually only on uphills from about 2500-3500 rpm, maybe because the car is under greater load. Otherwise at WOT, everything blends together and I really hear no rasp at all, it just sounds great IMO.

Yeah i was wanting to talk to you pa03gts cause i knew you had the same setup as me with the headers. It definitely is loud and has the rasp but it does fade away once it does reach WOT. I just like that i can actually rev now and hear something. Before on just the magnaflow exhaust, at a good rev you couldn't hear a whole lot. What performance gain did you get? I have much better throttle response and more power / tq at higher rpms. I noticed i reach 110mph shifting into 5th now.. before it was 100mph (this is at 6k).. im sure it could go a little farther before rev limiter..

I'm still very frustrated by the crazy long 2nd gear (in my sporty), and I am seriously looking into SDS Stage 1 to help get me through that friggin gear faster. |
