Hello :)
|
Auto-X/Track 3G Project
Well I decided To do something different with my eclipse than just looks on the outside. I do a lot of Auto-X and possibly few events of track days next year so I thought to myself , why not making a track car. I don't drive it alot since I work from my house , my girlfriend and I are probably moving together in few months so no driving for me at all. I also have a 04 Jetta 1.8T that can be used all yea long so I decided to take the route of gutting the car out. Here are few pictures and a description of what I plan to do to it during these long winter months
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 4/30/2009 Well, the car is up and running and I will be doing first Auto-X event May 3rd. Timing belt with all other belts has been changed and Falken tires are mounted on new wheels. Next Week I'm hoping to do some of the gauges and possibly clean the interior from all the dust and crap that was in the car over winter.By June Car should have RPW header on it with straight pipe and Tune from Logic Gate.

ummm your going to want to make a bracket for your door handle and something so you can use the locks and windows.
also, since your going this far, i see alot more that can be taken out. BTW, im in the process of doing the same thing

Hello :)

I will make the same brackets that Clipse3GT has in the car. As far as taking out more stuff , whole dashboard is going to be out leaving only 2 crossmembers and the stock bracket for HVAC. I might remove the sunroof and use plexi glass instead of it but i am still debating. What else you can take out that I didnt mention

Hello :)

I also wanna switch out my springs. I currently run Pro-Kit and was thinking to switching either to Sportlines or Tein S-tech. I need more of a drop since my car will be around 300+ lighter and that will affect ride height. What do you guys think?

i think you should spring for some jic's or megan colilovers. if you do auto x, i wouldnt expect anything less than coilovers for all four corners.

FYI,Your shoulder belts are dangerous, they should be much more horazontal to the seat! The way they are they can crush your vertabra!
Glad to see you guys getting on the band wagon regards gutting the car, make sure you take out as much sound deading as possible, there is probably 25 - 30 lbs in that alone! If i can be of any help don't hesitate as I did mine years ago! As some may know I've lightened the car over 300 lbs. Needs more but the only place I can think of is the dash but thats mostly plastic! BTW, the car is still a whale!!!!!!!!!!

another thought, if you're making this a track car, ditch the stereo! whats the point in having tunes when you only drive it on track days? just unnecessary weight imo.

Hello :)

I really dont need that but that would be nice
![]() As to the car stereo I kinda wanna keep since I'l still drive that thing around during spring-fall time couple times a week and it would be nice to have a radio. If I decide to take it out its only 15 minutes to get the brackets and wiring out... no biggie. As to the suspension I really like my Koni/Tokico set up. I drove and seen Clipse3GT and Clipse_GT's their car with coilovers and I'm not surprised. During Auto-X I get really similar, close or sometimes better times so I guess its just a matter pf preference.

I took out all the speakers other than the front two in the door and it's plenty loud I don't even have the infinity system. I am getting a head unit and speakers with a possibly lightweight amp because with all the sound deadening and interior out from the seat back it's kind of hard to hear over the road noise. I have to play my techno music loud while I'm boosting around town LOL.
I LOVE driving gutted cars. Better braking, acceleration, handling, traction, and gas mileage. And it's free! |

Ok, well just from the pictures, all the plastic on the hatch for starters.
Also all of the sound deadening material. Also there is some under the carpet. The brackets that the back seat locks too. And I don’t see any point in keeping the carpet or door sills if you’re not going to have a dash. But that all I can see from the pics. Trust me, it’s a never ending story when it comes to weight reduction, search for my post when I did it.

Emil, I would consider getting atleast a roll bar like Kris has. That way you can secure your 4 point harness to it and have better luck if you were to get in an accident. Also consider a 5 point harness. Most Road tracks require it if you get into any type of real road racing. The average track day does not require it tho.

They (Greddy/Invidia/Injen) may have a 2G NA exhaust (2.25-2.5) that would work. I think your best bet would be a Greddy Evo/Evo II/SP2

I would also swap out your 2000 GS ECU for a 2001+ so you can reFlash that bish. Either that or run a Haltech like Kris on your NA. The 2000 ECU can not be reflashed and an Apexi SAFC II will not keep your car tuned. The stock ECU will lean/richen itself so it is running as close to factory settings as possible.

Personally, get some RPW headers, new manifold gasket, then get a downpipe made that by passes the cat then runs to a 2.25 or 2.5" cat-back exhaust. Run the antifowler mod for the O2's get a 01-05 ECU module and get it tuned by logicgate. We can ask Tony to make you a custom intake manifold that would be fun to design. But we can talk about this part later.

Quietest on the street, and best/least restrictive on the track!! that's what I'd do if I were you!

Cant gut the car and still be in SM. That would put you in EM or even XP or FP.

300 is not a bad price at all for the SP2.

Why on earth are they discounting Greddy products? This is the time to bump up the price and get what they can while the products are still available.

I've owned the evo 2 for just over a year, and at times I really considered picking up the sp2 for a quieter sound. It has a nice town at idle, but for daily driving it can make a quite annoying echo.

I still have some time to decide and I'm not a really big fan of the Sp2 muffler style (not the tip). I also wants something that will sound nice with header. I heard a video clip of a gs with I believe CMF header and it sounded beautiful.

Yea, I'm not gonna use my car until Spring of 09' so I don't need to rush things and buy everything now. I also wanna get rid of stock exhaust for some weight reduction. I don't know how much weight difference there will be but the stock muffler that i threw out 2 years ago was f***ing heavy compared to a Magnaflow one.

I was thinking about that especially when I have a really nice Magnaflow muffler installed as we speak and I love it . I will keep that option open if I can't come up with any exhaust in the next couple of months. I also had my eyes on Tanabe Medallion (newest one) but there are only mayve 2 people who have this catback here.

SLight problem with that. Is that there is a decibel restriction where we race. I am not sure if a cut of will not be too loud. Secondly you will lose a bit of back pressure with that system, especially on a 4banger. I would recommend against it for the fact that you lose torque and gain HP. On there AutoX courses torque = acceleration. It's a good idea, but I don't think its a good idea for a 2.4L eclipse.

Correct.. but you may not be understanding what I am saying. Check Tearstone & Wesellcarparts. The prices of Greddy products have shot up quite amount. Probably because greddy is trying to scrap up every dime possible. What I don't understand is why the site listed above is LOWERING the price of the products. It is as if they fear it will not sell.

Hows the interior sale going? Got enough money yet for some new parts? If I were you I would work on finding a place that sells RPW stuff if you want there headers. Tearstone no longer carries any of there equipment. Also I would look into a brake duct kit. I believe the Evo/Brembo brake ducts will fit up to the 3g front rotors. I think the kit cost about 400 bucks but it is well worth it if your going to be doing some track days.

Another problem I came across today. I am ready to order my springs but Dont know which one to get. The reason for switching is drop I want to achieve. As of right now car sits pretty high because all the interior, trunk stuff is gone and Pro-Kit will no cut the drop. I was thinking about S-tech but will 1.6' be enough? anther brand I was thinking is Sportlines 2' around.I also found that Tanabe (F-2.1 R-1.9) makes springs with the drop that would work good for GS since its lighter up front. I really don't wanna go coilovers since my budget is limited. So summarizing I have these options
1.Tein S-techs 2.Eibach Sportlines 3.Tanabe Sport

if your gunna use the car for track i know the S-tech springs are stiffer but even on my GS the drop isnt that much and with all your interior stuff gone im assuming it would be less. so i would either go sportlines or tanabe for the drop and if you want stiff springs go S-tech.
