New Project for 2012
So I have nearly everything I need for the AWD swap, minus a couple things here and there. I won't be starting the conversion right away as I would like to have everything before I begin. Also I need a little inspiration/motivation.
Heres What I have: modded front subframe Front evo knuckles w/hubs Front evo axles Evo 8 transmission evo 8 starter evo 8 rear diff GSX rear non-lsd axles GSX rear subframe GSX rear knuckles/hubs GSX gas tank w/harness Rear GSX Diff bushings 4/3/2012 Bostonhatcher's rear diff mounts 4/3/2012 Update: 4/3/2012 Been doing some research and was reading about the differences in the DOHC head swaps and it turns out using the evo head bumps your compression to 10.5:1. Which is very high for the 20 psi I'm pushing. I've been talking with Greg and I'll be sending him my motor for a full build while doing this swap. here are some pics this might look familiar to some ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() things I still need evo 8 clutch evo flywheel slave cylinder transfer case exhaust driveshaft optional but will be getting as well coilovers brembos Last edited by Osirisfool; 04/03/2012 at 02:53 AM. |

Received Boston's rear diff mounts and a set of subframe bushings.
Turbo plans I'll be going with an stock Evo 8 manifold ported by map performance and the ATP stealth gt35r turbo kit. If anyone is interested in my A.A.I. Turbo parts keep a look out they will be for sale very soon

A little update.
Pulled the trans out. This weekend I'm gunna try to get the rear started and hopefully finished by next weekend. Also I have an Idea for a much larger front mount intercooler while being able to have the front crush bar still on the vehicle. |

trans is gone with clutch and all that.
the turbo you see in my avatar is gunna be for sale soon. manifold/turbo/downpipe/waste gate/oil lines/waste gate dump tube. I'm holding off on selling the turbo because I want to sell the oil pan with it to make it much easier for the buyer to install it making it easier for me to sell it. also I'm kinda undecided at the moment but I might end up selling the intercooler and piping as well. go to the RS/GS forced induction sign in and you can see the pics of my engine. look for the one with the evo head swap and dyno sheet as it is the newest. |

UPDATES
Removed the rear subframe and gas tank. for the guys who already have done this, how did you route the vapor hoses? 3g tank has the canister attached with a few vapor hose outlets coming from the tank. the GSX tank has 2. the one next to the filler neck obviously is used with the vapor line that runs next to the filler neck but then there is the 2nd small hose on the highest point of the GSX tank and im not sure what to do with the damn thing. ![]() pics ![]()

Got the filler neck and hoses modified and all the trunk interior removed. Post pics soon.
Debating on doing my own motor instead of sending it out. For block internals do we use all Evo parts? I'm sure we use the rods but how about balance shaft eliminator? |

It disappoints me you don't document your endeavors more closely, I would love to see it all.
My personal input: send it out. They may not have an explicit warranty but good work is the only thing keeping a shop in business so they will cover you if they screw up but do a good job in the first place. When I put mine together I had the shop do the shortblock and I'm glad I did because when it comes to that time there isn't much confidence to be had anyway. |

Here's the filler neck. only has one fresh air tube coming off of the neck unlike bostonhatcher's. its 1/4 tube. Factory on the neck I had 2 seperate one way check valves(only lets air/vapors flow in one direction), 1 was a 3/8 size and the other 1/4. I used the quarter allowing the flow to go torwards the tank.
![]() and heres a picture of all the rear interior pieces removed.

Installed the rear diff bushings today.
I used a hole saw to cut the rubber ![]() ![]() had to use a screw drive to pop the centers out ![]() used this to cut the rings ![]() there are 2 rings inside, heres the first ![]() then used the same saw to remove the second ring which is the last piece to come out. ![]() old bushings out ![]() stuck the new ones in the freezer over night to shrink them a hair. ![]() and heres how i installed them, first one went in much easier but it was a pain holding the camera and frame and wood etc. |

So as I'm waiting on these parts, I'm looking into my engine build.
Does anyone know how to read this chart from weiso for their pistons measurements? I understand the ones with the factory measurements but then theres the specs for the 87mm bored options where it will just say 100 or 150. are those measurements of mm?

The 100 and 150 are mm, with std inches right above it on all rows. As in Stroke is 100mm which = 3.937", and rod length is 5.906" which is 150mm Basically the only diff between the larger pistons and stock ones is going to be bore obviously and weight as well as compression ratio slightly

So I got the rear subframe bushings. Ran into some complications with making a new fuel feed line adapter. Also it is a huge PITA removing the old subframe bushings, got 3 out then it started raining. I'm not gunna be taking as many pictures as I have been. Unless there are some specific things people want some details on....?

Id ask if you could post where you run into issues. Like the cutting for those subframe bolts looks like a must. Versus the sender line issue you mentioned. But that might still fall under custom fuel stystem setup.

Not a lot of time lately, small update.
solid rear subframe bushings installed ![]() Fuel feed line conversion line(from pump assembly to factory lines) ![]() Fuel Pump wiring is done. ![]() the issues I have are mainly my own fault, i broke one of the -an fittings for my fuel line and had to order another. also I do not have it as lucky for the driver side gas tank strap - I need to make a new hole and fasten it down. |

The gsx gas tank apparently is a tight fit. I'll try to get it in tomorrow night. Decided to ditch the fuel line adapter hose and run the braided lines all the way to my aero motive regulator. Using a fuel lab fuel filter.

As the weather gets nicer I've started working on the car again.
Draw back is the rear main seal is leaking. Ordered Evo 8 oil pan and pick up tube Act clutch and street light flywheel Rear main seal Removed my turbo. Gotta send it in for a rebuild. Has minimal shaft play but it's leaking oil into the intercooler piping. |

new rear main seal, just remove the plate and clean off old RTV sealant, and carfully take out the old seal off the plate and use the old seal and a hammer to gently tap the new seal into place then re-RTV the plate on
![]() and the evo 8 oil pick up tube, factory eclipse one just has 2 bolts that connect the flanges together but the evo 8 has an additional bracket that lines up with an existing hole on the bottom of the motor, u need an 8mm by 1.25 bolt for the mount

More updates.
Today I installed the prothane mount in the upper trans mount. It was a pita getting the old bushing out. But I've read about people complaining putting in the new bushing??? Mine went in by hand. Got the front subframe out and installed the new flywheel and clutch. Next will be putting in the trans. Didn't want to attempt it without a 2nd hand. Pics posted soon. |
