E-brake handle
Has anyone come up with a creative solution for the poor mounting position of the E-brake handle? I was thinking about making a new center console and moving out to the other side. Any other thoughts. As much as I commute the dam thing digs into my leg.

ive never heard anyone complain about the ebrake handle before. if it is any further away from you in the car, just imagine how much harder it will be to pull it up. just saying

All I was thinking was to move it to the other side of the console and make my own console. I have a few ideas for the console to raise the armrest and add a cupholder for my daughter in the back. Maybe a little throwback to the first generation eclipse.

The E brake handle isn't in a bad position at all, I have never heard of anyone complain about that at all seeing as how LOTS of other cars have their E brake in the same position on the left side. If you really want to re position it somewhere else, the best position would be in the middle of the console like a lot of other cars have theirs set at. But you would have to sacrifice the the arm rest and maybe one cup holder. If you put it on the right side of the console then that would just be silly, you would have a longer reach for the E brake and that just wouldn't make much sense. Either leave it right where it is or customize your center console to make it in the middle where the cup holders and arm rest would be.

This isn't a drift car. The emergency brake handle is strategically placed in cars for a reason. Whether that be on the right side of the driver in the form of a lever or on left side of the driver in the form of a pedal. These are both locations that are easily assessable in case of an emergency. To want to move it sounds like a bad idea. (It wont be your passenger that pulls the lever in an emergency)

I just drove mine 5000 miles in 15 days and never once had a problem with the handle 'digging into my leg'. ...and I'm a big dude (6'1", 230lbs).
Maybe it's the way you're sitting that needs to be changed?

So I guess I have had issues because my expectations go back to my 93 eclipse where the handle was on the other side of the console. I am 6'3 300 and try to adjust the seat regularly trying to find something that works. My commute has been cut down now to 140 mile round trip. I guess I am getting bored with stock and want to find a way to make it more comfortable for me. I was hoping someone here had some good ideas. Since I rarely have a passenger in the front it shouldn't be a big deal. The only other idea was to make the console fit tighter to it so it isn't sticking out as much.

i love the position of the e brake handle, i've been in cars with the handle on the other side and don't like it at all, i actually like how some older hondas have them right in the middle however that takes up space that could be better used. actually now that i think about it i would like to see some one put the handle in the center and move the cupholders and console straight back so the console would take the place of the center of the rear seat, the cup holders would be in between the backrest portions of the front seat, then cups wouldn't be in the way while shifting and..... now i have a picture in my head that i like, i might just have to do this

what is the one pictured from? That looks like it would work. Now I am thinking I need to find a 1g with the handle I was referring to. I looked at mine and out would take some welding to do what I wanted.

So I was at a junk yard this weekend and right up front was a 2g and what do I find? Low and behold the 3g is apparently the first appearance of the e-brake handle on the left side of the console. Hmmmm maybe it is not just bitching and now I have some options. I would have snagged it but he wanted too much.

So I have started working on my new console. I found two MDF shelves at HD for $3 each. They are 3/4x12x96. They are what I am cutting up to make this project cheaply. My intent is to have the handle recess better into the console while also making the arm rest a good bit higher. Here is the pic of the two sides behind the stock console:
![]() I plan on adding in a few extras, as well as raising the auto shifter. O am not sure yet how extensive the mods will be at this point. |
