Another upscaling DVD player thread
ok, here is the situation. I have an LG 720p 32" LCD in the bedroom and a Sharp 1080i 42" LCD in the living room. I have an old sony standard DVD changer in the living room and I want to move that to the bedroom where i might watch one DVD per month. I'm totally not interested in buing a blu ray anything but I thought if I'm going to buy a new ( and cheap ) DVD player I might as well get an upconverting one. Does anyone have an upconvering DVD player in the $50 - $100 range that can give me a brief review? I want one that does 1080, i or p. I've seen several out there from Samsung, Phillips, sony and the likes but I just want one that has the basic features and doesn't break in the first year.

While it might be a little more expensive than you want Rick, I used to own an Oppo 970. That model has been discontinued but is replaced with the DV-980H
The player can play all region DVD's, along with any videos you rip to a disc(i.e divx,MPEG,avi, Xvid) It's really easy to update the firmware ![]() OPPO DV-980H 1080p Up-Converting Universal DVD Player with HDMI and 7.1CH Audio It's running 170$ but that comes with a 6ft HDMI cable. It's a awesome DVD player ![]() Or you can find a used 970 on Ebay for cheaper
