A Treasured 3.5 GT on its Last Leg...
A few weeks ago I was driving home the same route I always take around I-285 from Marietta to Decatur. If anyone knows anything about Atlanta traffic, its know for three things: speeding, aggressive driving, and ridiculously horrible traffic jams. It was a nice Monday afternoon, and traffic was flowing amazing. next thing you know as the freeway curves, everyone is braking and switching lanes. I thought nothing of it since this is business as usual. But at the last second someone pulled in my lane from a dead stop and I was already braking. I had to jump out of the lane to keep from hitting them head on. But I made the wrong move....I jumped right into the problem. It was a guy in an Acura Integra that was broke down, and a PT Cruiser was behind it. I saw the car and immediately continued to switch further over into the next lane, but not quick enough. I clipped him, and did a number on my car. Geico totaled it out but i bought it back for a steal. I love this car too much to let it go this easy. Its time to bring her back.
Im open to any advice, help, and comments. (Click on image for larger view) |

replace the whole front engine cradle/subframe along with the driver side control arm and things should line up well enough to align it straight. Looks like there was no true frame damage. Fender, door, hood, hammer the light holder back into place or get a newer front core support installed.

Strangely enough, the airbags didnt deploy. The insurance estimate was priced at 3,500. That is with paint, body repair and mechanical repair. Every part had a ridiculous mark-up. A body shop around the corner from my house is charging me 750 to fix all body damage and paint as long as I provide the bumper and fender. On the mechanical side I need a strut, lower control arm, a cv axle that was already shot, and a serious alignment. Im still checking and inspecting, tho. If i get another eclipse it wont be a V6. I have a special bond with this 3G.

So for a little update...as ive been waiting on the salvaged title process to go through, i got a little bored. My little cousin insisted on visiting me last weekend since he couldnt spend fathers day with his dad, so i put the little guy to work. I figured since the car is busted, what other way to get experience than to tear up an already torn up ride? So we pulled off the whole left suspension. Turns out the only damage was the strut, the stabilizer link, and the lower control arm. I had a random drivers side strut from another eclipse already, and i found a lower control arm and the link from Pull-A-Part for only 20 bucks! I made him do most of the work, and the only thing i did was help break stubborn bolts and torque them down properly. Mechanical part done, now for a little body repair. We are already 40% of the way there! Im getting excited!
