I was wondering if this could be done... swap my 3.0
I have been thinking about swapping out my engine on my gts since its got almost 150k it still runs strong no problems, i just dont like waiting for something to happen. also the work i have done on it im sure everyone is with me the V6 is a pain, even a simple spark plug job takes hours. So with that being said i was wondering if swaping out the 3.0 into the 2.4 4cyl was possible, i've looked if anyone has done it, didnt find anyone. also swap the tranny for a manual, i hate the sporty. id just like to know if its possible and what it takes, besides money of course

Why? You can buy a used Eclipse for less than the cost to swap a motor.

Especially if ur looking to do a manual swap too. Mitsubishi engines if taken care of properly last a long time. I knew someone with 300,000 miles. Also spark plugs last for a good while and dont need changed often.

I am actually curious about the same thing as ChrisD.... I have a nitroused GT running a 100 shot, and want to built a motor on the side, preferable a 4G64 bottom end with a 4G63 top end, turboed. I would just be curious what is involved as far as engine wiring, ECU, Motor Mounts, and other subtleties are concerned

The engine in our cars has been used in everything from sports cars to mini vans and suvs. 150,xxx is not going to hurt a thing. Change the plugs with good plugs that will last 100,000 miles, put a water pump and timing belt on it when it is due and just drive it.
If it were boosted for several of those miles or highly moddified then yes 150,000 would be up there. But stock I say it is just fine. |

FWIW, I own a 5th generation 1988 Galant with a 6G72 and over 340,000 miles. It just stopped running now as it has a bad oil leak (think it may be the main bearing seal), but I'm sure when I fix that leak, it will still go on for many more miles.
