I thought 01 gt didn't come with abs?

Well, as far as I knew, the 2001 fed spec gt Didn't come with ABS.

But, mine for some reason has it. I'm guessing the previous owner had it put on there.

Example as to how I know its there..

I can be doing 45-50 mph down a dirt road, slam on my brakes as hard as I can, and they will NOT lock up at all. Its kinda like the stutter, and slow you down really well. (which I'm guessing is ABS)

So... Am I wrong about them not coming equipped? or.. what do you guys think?

If you don't know what ABS feels like, take a new car with ABS for a test drive and mash the brake in a parking lot or something. You will feel it in the brake pedal. I can't answer your question because I don't know the answer, but I am not aware of anywhere that can "add" ABS. Then again I have never cared nor looked for such add-ons so I could be wrong.

As far as I know, ABS was available to all 3G GT trims. It would have come equipped if you got the premium package. I could have gotten ABS for my 2000 GT from the dealer if I wanted to.

I have ABS in my 2000 GT fed spec.

ABS was standard on the 2000-2002 Premium Package GTs. The base GT and the Sun & Sound package GTs did not come with ABS. And, of course, the RS and GS did not have ABS, either.

It only came as part of the Premium Package for the GT. You couldn't get it as an option on other trim models.

2000gt no ABS, has a bulb in the dash for it but no ABS sytem under the hood. also i have a sporty and a sunroof but the base stereo and cloth seats. and no rear wiper. im not sure what trim level this car was. it seams to be a mut. or possibly a custom delivery vehicle but that usually doesnt happen in this model range of vehicles.

Base model with probably a sunroof installed later. Or maybe just got that as an option instead of a package.

If you have a V6, then it's a GT. Otherwise, it's a GS (IIRC the RS did not have Sportronic, only automatic or manual).

The "Sun and Sound" package would give you a sunroof, and a cassette deck along with the single CD player, with 7 speakers, but no rear-wiper.

You'd only get leather seats and rear wiper (and ABS) with the Premium Package. I think you'd also get "traction control" with the Premium Package if you have a Sportronic.

i have a sun roof and 7 speakers, single cd deck no tape deck. i guess they opted for the sunroof as a seperate add on and maybe had the dealer remove the tape add on. i have 7 speakers and they all work but i dont have the 'premium' styled head unit.

with a v6, i know its a GT its just that ive never been able to figure out the option lists that this car had.

You have the GT Sun and Sound package. Google that, it was the only other package besides the Premium Package available on V6 models from 2000-2002. It was a base GT with the addition of a sunroof, Infinity premium 7-speaker sound system but the HU was the single disc instead of the 4-disc in-dash unit. A few of them also had leather seats (again, standard on the PP).
