It doesn't matter what ecu you get, i can make a definition for it. You can download all of my roms and definitions from the first post of this thread.

Flash, i thought there are certain ecus that i wont be able to use because of the different pin layouts in the ecu.

Flash, if someone owns a fed spec car, can they go to a junk yard or something and get an ecu out of a car that isn't fed spec and use it? Why is it that you can't reflash fed spec cars?

It is not so much as the pin layouts are different, rather that the processor is different.

Yes, here's where you can get the part. 2001 and above Cali spec ECU.
http://www.car-part.com/

and Hollywood has done that conversion:
2000 Fed Spec -> 2003 ECU w/ ECUFlash done.

Guys, let's keep this thread clear of these types of questions. This thread is just for ROM and definition updates. There are three more threads where I and others (including Flash) will be happy to answer questions. OK?
Peace.

Hey flash, got another small favor to ask. in my rom ( 05 GT MT 96590001 ) The injector voltage latency compensation is off (not literally off, incorrect values. . . such as blue box with numbers in the thousands). Would you be able to Define those values so i can adjust them? If you can, that'd be awsome.

First, you ROM is labeled wrong. It's 96590007. It is showing correctly on my computer. Latency values should be at address 3664 and voltage should be at 66F6 with 7 elements. That should fix everything.

I was up til 4am playing w/ roms, rereading this thread etc.

I'm beginning to see the patterns for the tables. That's kinda a no brainer. I've begun to come to the conclusion that unless we have the code we are never going to get exactly where we want to be when running boost.

For boost, we are going to need to be able to cut and paste code. Take code from for example an EVO ecu and plug it in to our ECU. The code base has to be way different just due to the nature of the beat, but in the same way it's going to be very similar. I read through a ton of datasheets and while the code is going to be very confusing I think it's very doable.

So I guess what I personally want to focus on is getting my hands on the code. I want the roms instructions not just the locations of the tables so I can make minute adjustments.

IDA Pro doesn't have the proper disassembler for the ECU so where does that leave us?

As an aside to all this...

The reason I'm making these comments is that flash has been able to unlock other tables in the roms. The problem is that if the code doesn't reference these tables they are doing us absolutely no good even if we can edit them. For example, lets look at how our ECU calculates load. Obviously we have a glass ceiling at 100%. The EVO guys using the exact same processor etc have a ceiling of ~300%. Their code was designed to be able to calculate above and beyond 100% while ours is not.

The ability to have actual code in our hands will allow us to compare and see what it is that allows the EVO code to read higher and in turn modify our own code. This goes for many things that we need to change about our ECU's for boost.

Is this going to be easy and quick? HELL NO. Is this what bottom line needs to happen? HELL YES.

Barring any hardware differences in the ECU's it really shouldn't matter WHAT code you run on an ECU. Technically we should be able to load an EVO rom into our ECU's. It won't work because the pins and the code references are all off, but thats why we need the code!

Flash is beginning to work on it but what we really need if this is supposed to be some sort of "open source" ECU is the actual code base for our ECU along w/ the others.

Can anyone point me to the right thread? I just received my cable from tantrix and I am trying to download the info from my ECU. I plug in both plugs turn the car to "on" (engine not running) and then tell ECU Flash to DL the ROM. It says:
[23:54:39.109] sending init sequence 1 (0001)
[23:54:42.328] sending init sequence 1 (0003)
[23:54:45.531] sending init sequence 1 (FFFF)
[23:54:48.234] no response to any known code
...and thats it. Its as if it can't connect to the ECU. 01 GT Spyder 5-spd. Thanks and sorry if this is the wrong place to post. I've been trying to get info from Tactrix.com but can't seem to connect to the site!

Yes, I went two notches from Off to On (not to Acc). I'm 100% that I am doing that portion correctly. Maybe I am missing a step?

I DL the software, install it, plug in the OBD/white/usb plugs, open ECUFlash, tell it to read ECU, move the key from off to on (engine not running), then click "ok" in ECU flash within .5-1.0 second. Then I get error msgs. Do I need to DL and unzip the rommetafiles or something else before the program can read my ROM? If so where exactly do they need to be unzipped (in relation to the main program install folder)? Thanks again.

You are doing everything right. I was messing around with it yesterday and that is the exact message I get when the car is off and I tell it to read.

I'm a PC Tech but I don't understand "reload the GUI". Do you mean reinstall or just reopen the program? I have done both with no luck.

TheFranchise: How do I tell what type processor I have? I just disconnected the battery, removed the grey box that says ECU (inside the engine fuse box) and took the lid off of it. I don't see anything that says H7 or H8... Where do I need to look? I believe this is where I need to start... I was about to order a 2002 ECU from online but obviously I need to know if this is my problem to begin with (wrong year/Fed-spec ECU)... Many thanks!

Edit= Thanks for the heads up Flash. Will the H7 or H8 markings be very visible or is hidden in a model # or something similar. Anyone have a pic? I hate to keep adding to this thread as it is supposed to be about roms and not troubleshooting... but thanks for not flaming in my time of need!

Could this be it? It looks like if it bolted to the actual firewall then I may have to remove the heater or AC stuff in order to access it. The box shown below is just behind the glovebox "cover" and is to the left of the glovebox but not bolted to the actual firewall. Thoughts?

Also, is the ECU referre to as the Engine Control Module? I looked in the FSM (component locations diagram ) and found that on pg 70-16, letter K.

u need to remove the ecu from the firewall. remove 2 screws and 2 plastic push tabs to open the case. take a pic of the processor.

here is mine. if it reads like this one then u are SOL until a H8 support is released (if ever)

Doesn't that chip say H7?? You could still use the flash cable if you replace an H8 ECU with a H7 + immobilzer + key, right? I mean those with H8s aren't COMPLETELY screwed right?

You need a 10mm socket, extension and rachet. Go pull the one 10mm bolt that holds the grounds in place. The metal thing that is behind the 2 ground wires is the bracket for the ECU. Once you have removed that bolt and have unplugged the ECU you have to jerk the ECU downwards. It might take some shifting, pulling, tugging, pushing to get the ECU out but thats all you need to do.

Oh, if you have never done anything under there that stupid vent might still be in the way too.

e-Reps for Pharm and Franchise! Thanks! The ECU was easy enough to remove although the wiring harness makes it a bit of a pain. I go my ECU out and looked at the ROM. Looks like I am screwed too until I do the ECU swap.

Franchise: PLEASE keep us posted on your swap. I'm sure several others will need to go that route in order to flsh/tune using this cable method!

My ROM:

I've been using Evoscan with great success! Awesome litttle program it is! I am rather suprised that it works though seeing that ECUFlash will not. Regardless, thanks for everyones help! I'm thinking of starting an ECU swap thread about this to help others in my situation.... Has anyone heard any updates on when/if they will release support or this "fed-spec" or "2000" ECU? I'm not seeing anything over on www.openecu.org

I just wanted to let everyone that sent me their ROMs know that I will have them finished soon. The new semester just started, my fucked motor, and working on more complex ECU projects are keeping me pretty busy. Hang in there and I'll get everyone taken care of.

Flash, apparently my 2003 GTS sporty has a different ID, 87550015 rather than 87550014, because I can not read the file.

Hoping you can make a definition for me, thanks. I'll send the file to your email.
