COTM Nomination and Voting Idea

Currently, the COTM is polled between the moderators and selected without any input of the members of the site. I have a suggestion that works well on other sites and would have the members of Club3G more involved.

ABout 3 week prior to the beginning of the new month, a "Nomination thread" would be started asking for input from members who should be polled for the new COTM. The nomination thread could remain open for 1 week. The names most commonly suggested/most appealing photos would be involved in the "COTM Poll Thread" which would contain the top 5 nominations.

The poll would remain open for the final 2 weeks of the month to collect votes. The member with the most votes wins, and is the new COTM!

Of course, a few things would apply:

#1 - You can't nominate yourself. If you do, thats just retarded.
#2 - If you make it as a COTM, you can't be nominated again for atleast 6 months.

Thoughts?

Interesting... Seems like a long time; maybe 3 months?

Sounds like a good idea to me!

There are PLENTY of nice cars on this site to fill up 5 months before someone is repeated. The whole point of COTM is to showcase great clean rides of the members of the site, and variety is what makes it so good.

i don't think that 6 months is long enough....there are dozens, if not hundreds of cars on this site that could be recognized.

I personally think that this is a great idea Hijacker,
i know that several suggestions have been made in regards to this particular of our very well run site, and i believe that this would create more participation and involvement with Club3g...

which is member supported...

You enjoy giving me a hard time, don't you?

This idea has been thrown around for a while, and we believe the only way this will work while preventing cheating is to allow only Contributing members to access a special forum to vote. This prevents people from creating more usernames to vote for themselves or their friends. While your preposal sounds solid, this is what I'm going to have to disagree with:

It has been an opinion of the moderating team that once someone wins COTM, they are done. This gives others a shot at being one, and not have Mojo, Icemanrld19 and some of the "top guns" around here repeatedly winning every other 3 months.

Inferno makes a very good point...

...by making only contributing members allowed to vote may convince some to contribute even a little bit in order to vote...

...and as far as i am concerned a little bit is better than nothing...

...BTW...i am a contributing member...i just don't have the tag under my name for some reason...

Not at all. By nature, I like to make improvements to things. If an idea is solid and has the potential to get members of an already excellent forum more involved, that always sounds like a win to me.

I think that's an excellent idea. That will also give more reason for people to actually support the forum with a small donation.

I agree to a point, which is why I suggested atleast 6 months. I've seen plenty of cars change COMPLETELY in a timeframe to be a totally different ride. If someone last September won with a mostly stock ride but VERY clean and since has done a bodykit, audio system, and added a custom turbo setup, I personally would see no reason why they shouldn't be up for nomination again since there was significant changes.

Either way, it's just an idea.

here's the same reason that i suggested one year time elapse...
I think that this forum should make more functions and perks for contributing members, not because i think that these members deserve it more...but because it would persuade more members to contribute

Another way to stop people from putting in bogus votes is to have it so that you have to have been a member for a certain amount of time, or possibly have X amount of posts in something other than the OT boards before you can participate in COTM. I know that over on 2gstratus that is how it works. Just throwing additional ideas out there.

while i understand the logic in your suggestion, i do not believe it would be the best way to go about this situation. Just because someone whores up the boards does not mean that they should have a say in what does or doesn't happen on the forum.

I feel as if a club3g contributor holds some sort of stock in the site, and therefore should have privelages that other users would not have access to.
