Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning
Mythic Entertainment | Warhammer Online
I searched and couldn't find any REAL thread. I'm VERY surprised this hasn't be discussed yet, seeing how this is probably the most anticipated player versus player - REALM vs. REALM! - MMORPG coming out at the moment. For those who haven't been following, Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, aka, WAR, is the new MMORPG being released by Mythic Entertainment. There have been previous Warhammer genre games released in the past, all based off the table top Warhammer Fantasy game. This game is going to focus strictly on PvP and now RvR (realm vs. realm) battling. There will be some PvE, raiding, etc., but the WAR team and beta testers have made it very clear - that this is a game weighed heavily on ""I'mma smash yo' face in!! /spit" PvPing! I can tell you this... You can find me online on day one when it is released. ![]() NEW: Cinematic trailer released the other day: Warhammer Online Original released cinematic trailer: Warhammer Online Paul Barnett, Creative Director and one of the producers, being completely NUTS over his own game at E3 2006: YouTube - Paul Barnett explains what is Warhammer Online about RELEASE DATE ANNOUNCED: EA PREPARES FOR WAR AND ANNOUNCES SHIP DATE FOR WARHAMMERŽ ONLINE: AGE OF RECKONING™ Mythic Entertainment Declares September 18, 2008 a "Day of Reckoning" **WARNING!!** Big, obnoxious screen shots below. I know what it is, just being silly. Looks like they tried very hard to get wow graphics even the mounts. Even the damn staff the warlock is holding is the same you could have gotten at Scholomance(sp) (before anyone says anything I know about how warcraft and warhammer got started. How they didn't let them use their story blah blah blah)

I was in the beta and I think it is a solid title. I just don't see anything that makes it stand head over shoulders of others MMO's. If people are looking for something a little different Warhammer could be a nice change. For people that are experiencing MMO burnout this title will probably not be what restores your enamorous feelings for the genre.

I was in beta and my big problem I had was the "so what" factor. I got better gear, I did PvP and stomped, but so what? The game was fun and I logged quite a bit of time into it, but it really dies out quick. I think if Arena/BG is all you like to do in WoW then you will love this game, otherwise it does wear off. It is also amazing how big healers are in this game.

I noticed they have land mounts, do they have flying mounts in the game? I'm too lazy to look. I like the dark sorta LOTR feel to it -- I watched the new trailer. I liked it a lot except for the ending -- it doesn't seem to have the lore behind it. Like Alan said, PvP is great and all, but without a story to drive the game, it gets old. I don't hate pvp but doing it just to get gear and then stomping more people seems tiresome.
One thing I like about WoW is that the quests try their best to draw you into the storyline. Sure the actual result of the opening of AQ 20 and AQ40 ended up so we can invade them instead of them invading us was sort of odd, but it seemed at least like there was a goal. Anyway, I may look into it, but I tend to be more into games that are story-driven -- like for example the new WoW expansion. Hmm, Arthas just woke up and suddenly is very cranky . . . what mayhem will he pull on the unsuspecting peoples of Northrend...

See, I've raided in one of the top US guilds, and I find raiding a thousand times more boring then PvP. It's the SAME grinding, the SAME clearing, the SAME bosses, the SAME routines, the SAME strategies week after week after week. I was sick and tired of it in the end, and only got into raiding when BC came out because PvP was dead. You know what was awesome about WoW when it first came out? When characters of levels 40+ did NOTHING but raid the other factions' major cities day and night. It was a constant battle. It was entertaining, awesome, and epic. It's the same reasoning why I've been a FPS person for YEARS. And in a FPS MMO, you don't have a "character", you don't quest, you don't level, you don't grind, or get any gear. You just kill other people... All day long... And I love it. ![]() I'm looking forward to a game where I can get the enjoyment of having my own personally "built" character, while also "stomping" other's, as Alan put it. It's some of the first reasons I fell in love with WoW. But that's just me .

I only Pvp in WoW now due to time issues with raids. I also dont do arena's because well its just a glorified version of a pve raid now.
I have more fun sneaking around on my rogue hoping to find some idiot who actually is out in the world. ohh edit It looks like a graphics monster if those are actual screenies. also ill have ot read more on it. would take lots to drag me away from WoW with an xpac coming uout but you never know |

I must admit guys, that I come from a different gaming background than Sara. I do not FPS, mainly because it gives me a massive headache. I am not sure what it is, but maybe it's the same thing that makes me prone to seasickness when I'm on a boat. Instead, I played EQ for 5 years and then quit only to have an evil friend give me WoW.
So I loved raiding, and not being in a top US guild means you were forced to adapt strategies and learn the fights the hard way, usually with many wipes. It's a form of progression tempered by a lot of patience I must admit. I'm glad to hear that Warhammer will have lots of lore associated with it. I left a message with a friend of mine who has a connection with EA to see if he can find out more about it. If it's full blown pvp all day long it could get tiresome -- but on the good side, if it keeps me from spending too many long hours on a schedule raiding, it may be a good thing! I do have one disagreement with Sara regarding PvP in WoW. It's not pointless. It's a way to get really good gear without really having to be the best. I decided to get some boots and was surprised with how easy it was. For the casual player, it's not a bad thing nor a bad way to get decent gear . . . I guess that's why they call em welfare epics *ducks*. I wish I got into pvp a bit more earlier, it does help my reflexes and skills a lot for when I raid. Too often others who are used to pve get caught in blizzards, rain of fire, volcanoes, flamestrikes, etc.

SO i checked it out last night. looks pretty cool in all the trailers but the actual game play videos i saw on you tube seems BOring and slow. maybe at later stages of game it will look sweet but it jsut seemed like it was bash with sword wait 2 seconds bash with swords repeating.
I would really think they would have a big high level char battle to show what a fully set up players could do. maybe i jsut didnt find any in my search. |
