Can you give some specific examples, so I could test it out and look for similar incidents?

Ok Glenn...I'll bite, even though you come off like the Wendy's "unofficial spokesman" I Dl'd it... I'll give it a fair try. I have to say though, other than the occasional hijacker I haven't had any problems with IE.

It's not like I go around, trolling the threads and say, "you must get Firefox!"

No, i had a problem with Winamp where I was using a single monitor instead of duals because one of my monitors died. Winamp was still appearing on the second desktop though and I didn't know how to get it to show up on the main on again instead.

No, you just start a whole thread dedicated to the wonder that is Firefox and put all the effort into letting people know what it is

...but that would be the only way I could "accetably" do it. If I didn't do this, I would have to troll every thread and say, "Use Firefox" to let people know about it. And a lot of people who were already using Firefox didn't know about the extensions and stuff, which can be very helpful. What else could I have done?

So I started a thread. It's up to everyone else to decide if they would even read the thread.

I also started a thread about proxies, and about GMail, and about getting rid of spyware, etc. Does that make me unofficial spokesman for those, as well?

Oh well.

Does this sound close enough to what you're experiencing?

Edit: Ugh. Just realized that I'd already posted that link.

ehhehe yeah you did, and no, it's close but not really the same. That issue deals with pop-ups. It sounds like something rather fundamental though--the Mozilla folks don't seem to have taken dual-monitor support into account very much. Fix one, and you'd likely fix the other.

There's actually a list of dual-head monitor issues, but that was the closest one I found (though I didn't read through them very carefully).

If you ask me, once is one time too many to experience a browser hijack. And I've never experienced one on my own computers, though I've had to fix numerous others before.

Two more extensions:

Webmail Compose
Similar to GMail Compose, but handles multiple webmail providers--Yahoo Mail, Hotmail, GMail, Mail.com (with more on the way). Adds a context menu for you to use with email addresses to connect to the compose window of the webmail provider of your choice.

Minimize to Tray
For Windows users only. Like the name suggests, allows you to minimize the program to the system tray instead of the task bar.

How come sometimes firefox asks you to pick a profile? It hasn't happened to me but has to Diana.

It could be one of two things:
  1. When Firefox was last closed, it didn't fully close. If it asks for the profile again, close Firefox, use Alt-Ctrl-Del to bring up the Task Manager and see if Firefox is one of the processes still running, and if it is, kill it.
  2. Her profile is foobared.

If her profile is foobared, backup what you need from that profile, then use the profile manager to remove it, and create a new one.

Go to the Profile Folder, and you'll see the files that she's customized for her browser. Things you might want to keep include:
  • bookmarks.html
  • cookies.txt
  • formhistory.dat
  • history.dat
To run the profile manager, click on Start (Windows), go to Run, and enter "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -ProfileManager (assuming Firefox is installed in the default location.

Firefox 0.9.3 came out today. The new version has "been updated to fix several security issues, including some vulnerabilities recently mentioned in the press."

Remember, uninstall the old version before you install the new version.
