Need help with an AutoCad problem

I am running Acad 2000i on a MS Xp pro platform and have encountered some loss of utilities after a crash.

Specifically during a render involving a number of light sources and shadows of a fairly complex model the program froze and I hade to crash out of it.

Since then, the program, in standard model mode will not display elements, groups or blocks while they are being moved or inserted, dimensions during a _dimtedit, or circles during the r selection part of the command. Dimensions don’t appear until the placement gleep is made.

I think a view setting has changed but I can not find it, does any one have any ideas.
