I find it funny that the one person that has dealt with the most shit about their methods on everything is now the highest hp 3g on the site. People can talk all they want, but you back up what you say. Great job!

Yeah it's the stupid (better looking) 4-door version of the Eclipse. Oh wait, the Eclipse is the bastard child Mitsubishi didn't even sell in Japan.

Well my 490 lb-ft clutch is starting to slip under full boost. No more new numbers until that sucker gets replaced. I'm making over 560 lb-ft at the crank at altitude, and more to come, so I think I'm going to get a SPEC Stage 5. Even the best ACT clutch isn't rated for what I'm making.

It's too bad there isn't a twin disc for our 8 bolt cranks.

Hrm... Create insert for EVO TD to mate that puppy up!

I should go check to see if my VR4 clutch fits in the 3G bell housing. If so, an RPS MAX pressure plate w/ a quality disk would be all you need. The clamping force on the RPS MAX is ridiculous. When I had it in my VR4 I swear my left leg got bigger than my right over the course of a month of DDing it.

Would you please do that? The VR-4 I'm working on isn't torn apart yet, but I can check when it is. Boostzealot and I have contemplated that this would work many a time... I really can't see why it wouldn't.

I'm looking at the SPEC Stage 5 and just thinking it wouldn't even be worth it. Though I had good luck with my Stage 3, it would probably break

The only problem I have is that the only bell housing I have to test right now is attached to my mockup motor on a stand.

I know for a fact the flywheel and pressure plate are bigger than the 3G. This would lead to issues w/ the starter

I'm late to this thread, didn't know this was going on. I am purely amazed someone finally hit the 500hp mark. Whatever you're doing, keep doing it. I hope to someday just have 350hp setup.

guys the VR4 clutch wont work because we have a pull-type clutch setup and theirs is traditional. i remember only because when i began ordering stuff for my manual swap and they guy that sent me my clutch sent me one for a 3000gt and it didnt even have the slide piece in the middle for the throw-out bearing that we have. Tj, we talked about this before. the only clutch that would work would have to be the evo one if you are looking to see about available parts crossover. Greg do you have any old stock evo clutches laying around? i wonder how far off dimensionally they are?

Oh yeah... Duh

Well I've pretty much settled on a SPEC Stage 5 since only I drive my car and I can handle the harsh engagement. I'll have to replace it in 6 months, but oh well. It holds something like 650 lb-ft of torque, which is great because it allows me just a little bit of head room.

And 4th gear is gone now (not the synchro, just gone, you can hear the pieces banging around in the trans case), so I have to replace the whole damn thing. I'm looking at going with a GTS trans this time around, with the GT final drive maybe. Top end beast with laggy first and 2nd gears for better traction.

Just so you know, it's cake to convert to a push style clutch instead of pull. You basically just remove the clutch fork, clutch slave cylinder and TOB and replace it with a hydraulic release bearing. We do it all the time for EVOs.

Just so you know the GTS trans has about the same gear ratios as the GT trans for gears 1, 2, and 3. ie 32 mph top speed in 1st for the GT and 30mph top speed for the GTS in 1st. You will see this if you take the gear ratio of the gear and the final drive. However, 4th gear and 5th gear in the GTS trans are significantly shorter.

Just so you know I have access to the service manual like everybody else and I've known those differences for years now. Hence why I said I wanted to use the final drive from the GT F5M51. That with the GTS gearset would make a pretty much perfect combination for me (and better gas mileage in 5th - a turbocharged V6 doesn't need to sit at 3000 RPM at highway cruise). I'm not going to argue with you over what I know I want...

Little touchy are you. Now I see why drama follows you. I missed the part about using the GT final drive. I have calculated those ratios, and they look pretty nice for a boosted car. The GTS output shaft gears should fit on the GT output shaft. edit: and your signature is out of date.

I know it's out of date, but it's a link to an old video. I don't want people clicking it and being like "Oh WTF, BS, liar!"

GT, GTS and EVO all share the same shafts and gears are all swappable. We built a trans for an EVO that used the 3G 5th gear to give a respectable cruise RPM.

Greg do you think it would be worth it to cryo treat these gears while I have the trans apart?

It won't hurt. Micro polishing is another way to go. I do believe micro polishing is cheaper and has proven to be just as effective as cryo treating.

Buy my auto trans dude.... its built for exactly what you want to do with your car. IPT has built many DSM auto transmissions holding over 800ftlb, this is no exception.

Not to mention the stall on this torque converter will give you practically instant boost with that setup.

Ondonti : who are you?
For that whole stupid downpipe debate. Temperature doesn't prove anything about restriction. If you want to measure restriction, measure the backpressure!

Hotter downpipe might just mean he is getting an afterburn when unburned hydrocarbons hit the turbine blade. Also, the downpipe doesnt have coolant or oil lines

Ditch those CP's!
You've seen my car totally screwing up and still not blowing up!

I wont post up the picture of your CP piston since you seem to have trolls here which is why I guess you haven't done it yourself but look at my top ringland compared to yours. Your CP looks like an n/a piston.
I would consider posting it up so people can see how the CP pistons compare. You also have a slipper piston.........Are the ross's full skirt? The 12 valve guys I know with Ross's have full skirts. The Ross pistons I have seen look like they have been polished, mine obviously not!

You can see my 0.096 overbore here.
The piston only weighs 1 ounce more even though its a full skirt and much bigger (the tapered pin is lighter then stock)
The Dish is larger, it matches my Combustion chamber which is also larger from deshrouding the valves.

I tried a vr4 flywheel on a junk motor/trans and I couldnt fit it in my bellhousing because it sticks out farther from the crankshaft
The n/a 3000gt flywheel is smaller in diameter and also has a spec 5 clutch available.

I ended up just using a dual diaphragm pressure plate (3300 pounds) on my solid 3 puck disc. 800ft/lb capable though with my luck...

$500 but I bought the rings from total seal and got raped.. $300 dollars for rings.

In the future I will get my pistons and rings from the same manufacturer.

IMO, these pistons could be less beefy and still be plenty strong. 6g72's have a problem of the pin and pin bosses failing in vr4's so its probably good to stay on the beefy side. I dont actually know why they fail at the pin/boss. Could be from 8000-9000+ rpms and more HP then any of us are making lol.

If TJ posts pictures of his CP pistons you will be able to see the difference on top ring land and how much lower my top ring is. Its actually more important for my top ring to be placed low because I have the huge valve reliefs from only have 2 valve heads. It makes the ringland weak there. You guys only need to move the ringland down enough to keep the top ring from getting to hot.

Who cares, he was annoying. Maybe he took my advice and shot himself.
