Vegetarian V-diet?

I'm a vegetarian and was wondering if anybody knew of anybody or if it's even possible to do the V-diet as a veg? I'm sure my results won't be near what others get because of the lack of protein, however, I can't help but ask because of all the very good results I've seen.

-Also, please don't try to convince me out of being a veg. I fully understand if you don't agree with it, it's just my choice. On the other side of that, I have NOTHING against those who choose to eat meat. My philosophy of it is "If I don't care that you're eating meat, please don't try to convince me not to." Not trying to be an asshole, it's just that when I usually tell people I'm a veg the first thing they do is try to convince me out of it.

YOu can get lots of protein without eating meats. Can you drink milk? If so then you can have whey powder.

Yeah, I literally just don't eat meat or meat products. I eat LOTS of eggs, cheese, and drink a lot of milk also.

Obviously you didn't read that the way I meant it to be read. I meant that I try to get a lot of protein in, so I eat a lot of eggs. Not that I over eat.

Yes, I eat both. I don't really eat too much peanut butter though. I eat a decent amount of tofu, usually 3-4 times a week.

So, if you don't over eat...then why are you trying to go on the v-diet? Are you trying to lose fat? If yes...then that means you have been over eating or have a lack of exercise. So, eat healthier (eat in the appropriate caloric range) and get plenty of exercise. No need for v-diet. It's just another fad diet.

I think we need to have a realistic conceptualization of your goals before anyone can offer dietary advice.

just because he's thinking about doing the V-Diet doesn't mean that he overeats. I've seen others who are in pretty good shape who do the diet to get super lean and bring out vascularity and more muscle definition. Others can do it to get rid of stubborn fat pockets that they can't seem to get rid of, like lower belly pooches. Obviously you don't fully understand the v-diet. Its not a fad diet. Its for people who want to see quick results, and if done exactly right is an Excellent plan. It lead to me losing about 45 total lbs. the first time I did it. (that was during the 6 week plan and about 2 months after from continuing a partial v-diet plan).

Back to the Rocketbass's OP, I dont' think there is a problem with you being a vegetarian. The diet is basically, Lo-Carb Metabolic drive, Surge Recovery, water, PB, flaxseed, fiber tablets and fish oil pills. Then you have one healthy solid meal per week. This is where you typically get the lean meat protein in, but I wouldn't see a problem if you substituted other healthy protein sources. Good luck to you if you decide to do it, and get very angry!

Yes I eat a lot of MorningStar and Smart products (the Smart dogs are the only things I prefer over MorningStar).

Also, thank you Jeremy... I'm glad some sensible people can understand why I'd like to try the V-diet. I DON'T overeat, I just feel that I'm hitting a plateau with myself and would like to give something new a try. I'm not trying to lose a ton of fat, I'm pretty happy with the way I look. It's just annoying to me that I get most of my hard exercise (outside of the gym) when I go snowboarding and now that there is virtually no snow, I've found that without that hard cardio, I'm showing more fat than usual. I feel the V-diet might be a nice boost in my personal confidence. Anyhow, I was just looking at something like this to maybe give me that boost. Also, a whole lot of this doesn't necessarily have to do with results. I'd just like to try something that makes me feel like I'm really doing something good for myself. This V-diet has gotten so many rave reviews (from those who stick to it) that I was just very curious (without a whole lot of knowledge, admittedly) to see if this type of program is possible for a veg. I'm very used to diets I read about having a high meat content(mostly chicken and turkey), so I was wondering if anybody had any knowledge on trying the V-diet as a veg.

As far as goals go, I have some fat areas in my lower stomach I'd REALLY like to get rid of. I was hoping enough dead lifts and crunches would help, but I still have them. My current BMI is a little over 15%. I know that isn't body builder material, but that's not what I'm looking for. I'd really just like to look in the mirror in the mornings and believe that I really am living as healthy of a lifestyle as I feel I'm living.

"been over eating or have a lack of exercise"

The best way to go about looking your best everyday for the rest of your life is to get into a habit of eating healthy foods and get lots of exercise. Healthy, meaning eat within your means, if you have a high metabolism then by all means eat 3000 calories a day, if you run cross country then by all means eat 3000 calories a day, if you gain 5 pound just by looking at a donut then maybe you shouldn't eat 3000 calories a day. THAT'S IT.

The v-diet is cool to try out and all, but in the end you'll be right back where you started...doing the v-diet again. Just like you!

I believe I said..."over eating OR not enough exercise...so I'm right because you said you don't get enough cardio anymore. Since the snow is gone. I believe in trying something new. Just go into it open minded.

Since you say you are in the 15% range. I would say look at the calories that you are eating in a day. Once you start to get down below 15% you gotta start manipulating your calories and start getting into macro nutrition. Try and get in an hour of medium-low intensity cardio a day. If you work out daily...then I'd say at least 30 min. of cardio a day.

What is your current workout routine? Daily caloric intake?

Oh really? I'm back right where I started? Funny how you know that. I started my 1st V-Diet at 245 lbs. and started my 2nd V-Diet at 216. I'm currently at 208. So try again. It has been a great plan to strip away fat quickly. The reason I'm doing it again is because I ultimately didn't get down to my goal weight with the first go around.

No, that's not what is happening. You're bringing a feud from OT outside of OT. I understand that you and I don't get along, but you're knit-picking my posts to a point of ridiculousness. I've made it very clear that I lead a pretty healthy lifestyle and wasn't coming in here asking for critiqueing on my lifestyle. I simply wanted to know if anybody had ever attempted the v-diet without meat.

I'm sorry to the rest of you who were trying to be helpful that this thread has gone to hell. Thank you guys for your helpful opinions/thoughts. I think I'm going to give the v-diet a go starting the 1st of August.

Rocket, update me and let me know how it goes. Trust me, you'll love the end results. If you have any other questions let me know. It takes alot of will power, but sounds like you're ready to take it on. The 1st week is really tough to get adjusted to not eating like you're used to. It really helps to document everything you do everyday (kind of helps pass the time). Believe me, you'll have alot of extra time on your hands....hardly any grocery shopping, food preparation, eating....you'll notice just how much of your day that stuff take up

This diet is kick ass, but will also kick your ass

Thanks man. I'm pretty hopeful for this diet. Do you know around how much it actually costs for the whole deal? I'm just curious exactly how much of my next paycheck I should hold onto for it.

$556 I believe.

It's not as bad as it sounds when you figure in the fact that you won't be spending much money on groceries or going out to eat.

Wow, in that case, I'll be starting on the 15th of August, haha. I thought it was in the $300-400 range.

rocket - I am going to avoid all morbidjackass' comments and try to help you.

Most of what I have seen in the v-diet is casien protien (egg) if you can eat eggs you can do the diet. You may want to read VERY closely about what the diet contains. If may fit nicely into your veggie lifestyle. BUT IMO why are you doing a v-diet. Eating veggie you should already be pretty lean. I could be wrong. If you are trying to build then add more casien protien to your diet.

Wally did the v-diet with good results. Drop him a PM, he is always willing to help. Plus he seems to know the v-diet inside and out. Good Luck.

(wish cam/wally was still around, he would be able to help a lot with this)

I'm just doing it for something new. I haven't really changed weight in almost the past year, but like I said, I lead a pretty active lifestyle. I just want a nice kick in the ass that will take some commitment. I started reading about the v-diet and it sounds like the kind of strict plan I'd like to try.

Blow me! As if you know a damn thing about nutrition. You can't even spell casein protein correctly. STFU!

What if he ate french fries smothered in cheese all day...would he be lean? Or loads of chocolate? Are you implying meat makes you fat???

As long as you are not one of those vegeterians that hate animal cruelty youll be fine considering you drink milk and eat lots of eggs(most of the chickens used for eggs are slaughtered for their meat) They have protein pills(which are made from insect parts) Also no jello as it has bone marrow.

Just leave this thread alone, you've ruined it enough already. You're making stupid presumptions like me eating cheese-smothered fries when I already said I have a healthy lifestyle. I'm not going to sit here and say I don't have something like that every once in a while, but I would say that's on a less than 2 or 3 times a year. Stop looking at all the cracks in what I'm saying and trying to find fault, it's annoying and just shows how desperate for attention you are.

seeing Wally's results is what prompted me to try it as well. I currently re-started my round 2 that I screwed up the first time. I don't know how I had the willpower the first time

My ultimate goal is to get down to 180-190 and keep as much of my muscle as possible. The workout plan for this diet is pretty good at hitting all of the target areas that generally give people problems.

I'm not attacking you. I was simply disproving his presumptive question about being a vegan. I was showing him examples of how one could be fat, whilst being a vegan. Not one part of it was directed toward you...at all. I'm not pointing out your faults, everyone has faults...that's not the point. Come on now, work with me. Get off of that one track mindset. I already told you good luck and fuckstick had to come in the thread and show his lack of wisdom...

With that being said...are you going to use all of the products that are designed with the diet or are you gonna try your own variant first?

Good luck!

First off, I'm not vegan. Vegans don't eat any animal products including dairy and eggs.

As to your question, I'm just going to do their products. I really don't want to read too much into it, I'd just like to try it. I've read enough to know what I will be doing but I don't want to go substituting things that I don't know much about.

Good call, but make sure you have read enough to know what you need to do when. This diet was one of the harder things I have done in a while when you start talking willpower. If you do what they say I think you could make it. I do not like how casein protien tastes so I tried to sub whey...Not good results. Anyway good luck and post up your progress!

Won't work if you start substituting other foods, protein powders, supps, etc....the guys that put this diet together spent years perfecting it. Anyone I've heard of that tries to adapt ends up failing the diet.

To the OP, if you are a vegetarian, the V-Diet is likely not the best idea for you. I would instead recommend you look into Precision Nutrition. IIRC, it's around $100 and the new version (V.3) contains an entire section on "Plant-Based" (vegetarian) food intake. PN works well for weight loss and there are plenty of add-ons available if you want more assistance than just the books and website.

| Precision Nutrition

I own and use this with great success.
