Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament
Ok it has been exactly a year today since I got my arm broken in a tournament. After four months of therapy and a year later my arm is finally ok to compete. Sooo today I will be competing in the Toledo BJJ Open in Ohio. This is the same tournament I got my arm broke in.
I will be doing the Adult Blue Belt Division and the Adult Advanced division : ) Later I will post how I do. |

Thanks guys... Well I lost my first match 4-2. Was winning up until the last minute. I don't like making excuses of any kind but I think if I would have been in shape I could have easily won my first match.
Then my second match went against a brown belt and escaped about five submissions then finally got caught in a triangle choke. I feel my second match was a lot better than my first although I got submitted. This tournament was beyond enough to get me motivated to get my lazy ass back in the gym. Possibly going to compete again next week but for sure on June 11th. Didn't get hurt at all so thats a plus. |

Sweet great to hear man. Hopefully you get back into shape and next time you can be posting trophy/medals pics. I really miss rolling for hours. I used to train at Curtis Bush's school and loved every second of it. Good luck keep us posted with your progress.

Yeah man I don't have any videos of any matches for the past like two-three years. For some reason we stopped taping them. This tournament this weekend I will try getting some vids of my matches.

This is just strictly grappling like wrestling but with chokes, armbars, leg locks, heel hooks, ect.
It is pretty fun... Although I will be doing an actual cagefight next year. |

Alright thanks for the offer... I mean I will probably talk to the people in charge of the amatuar fighting up here in Michigan and tell them I will fight if someone drops out for a title fight. I know for a fact I can beat pretty much anyone in amatuar on the ground :/
Edit: Actually might take you up on that sometime because I like traveling and I think it would turn it into a more fun experience. I will let you know. Probably won't be until next year because I have some Brazilian Jiu Jitsu goals I want to accomplish before doing MMA. These goals should be achieved within like 5 months though Last edited by MitsubishiOwn; 06/05/2011 at 07:03 PM. |

Lol... I am about 6'1 150-160 lbs depends on the day... I don't mind getting punched in the face it just pisses me off. BodY shots are the ones that I don't like but the more I think about it the more I want to fight. I am not too sure that my arm can handle me punching as hard as I can and possibly missing, causing pressure on my elbow. I don't know if you read my other posts but my arm was/is pretty messed up.

I fight at 170 and I'm 6'2". But I'm a Muay Thai, Judo, BJJ fighter so I like that they have to close the gap to do anything. I can clinch up easier. Those aren't the only disciplines I'm trained in but that's how I like my fights. Keeps me from gettin punched in the face too much.

Never done a straight bjj tournament but I've done open grappling tournaments a few times. I'm a brown belt in bjj and a black belt in hakko ryu jujutsu. I hold a brown belt in kodokan judo as well. I have 2nd dan black belts in both goju ryu and tae kwon do. I've also studied boxing and muay thai. I've been doing martial arts for 17 years though, which doesn't hurt any.

You guys should get into it. I unfortunately I'm 6'4 265lbs which would mean I would have to fight Shane Carwin,Brock Lesnar,Frank Mir (No thanks). Glad to hear things are going good with training. Get us some vids man. You guys watching the fights tomorrow? I was really disappointed about the Tuf finale. Can anyone say Guida/Pettis rematch? Everyone is sketchy in their first match in the big show plus he hadn't fought in some time. Sorry to get off topic. POST SOME VIDS.

Probably won't watch fights tonight going to hang out with some girl...
![]() These fights should be really good though.. I hate watching The Ultimate Fighter... But Mayhem is the next coach and he is my favorite fighter so it'll be fun to watch. He is easily the coolest fighter around. |

I would have to disagree about the same result happening if there is a rematch. Take this into account. Petis hasn't fought in a while, and it was his first fight in the UFC. Almost everyone has a rough first fight. There were a couple moments where he hit guida with some shots that looked like they could have ended the fight. Sorry I'm personally a Guida fan (kinda) I mean I like him but that damn sure wasn't a Champions victory. Even though Petis lost I was more impressed with his lose then Guida's victory. The 360 kick off the cage was INSANE,also the kick from the ground was pretty sweet. I think he needed to knock some rust of. Watching Guida smother him for 15 minutes was kinda lame. Just like watching GSP fights these days. I'm a huge GSP fan but will be the first to say his fights are getting more boring the more he fights. They are never wars just 25 minutes fights where the most punishment is me trying not to fall asleep. I hope you get a rematch with the guy that broke your arm and beat him man. If you are ever in Atlanta for a match hit me up I would love to come and show my support. Good luck and don't forget.

Actually it has. It helped a lot with balance and the strikes aren't telegraphed nearly as much as Muay Thai for instance. Karate in general is overlooked in MMA a lot since it's considered to be more of a point sport. But it sure works for Lyoto Machida. |

Update on my status: School ended yesterday so I am starting to train again. My gym is an hour away from my house so I will not be able to go all the time. Three days a week at the maximum, two days at the least. For about 3-4 hours at a time which means round trip about 5-6 hours.
Anyways I trained today and I felt like shit. I have not been doing cardio on my own and it showed. Every single person I sparred against smashed me. So I start running tomorrow to get back in shape. The next tournament is the Border Buck Eye Challange on July 17th. My goal is to win the blue belt adult division. I will turn 18 two weeks before the tournament starts. A funny thing happened today though. So I forgot my belt and obviously was not driving home because of it so I borrowed a white belt from the gym. A guy who I don't see a llot up there is a white belt with a couple stripes. So I am dog tired and this guy asks to spar. And I say ok. I wasn't going real hard cause I was exhausted and he caught me with a submission at the beginning. Anyways throughout the whole time we were going he was stopping and explaining things to me, which was nice of him, because he thought I was new. When in fact I have been training for six years Idk I thought it was funny.Edit 6/25/11: Pedro Elias came to our gym today and taught the class along with doing a seminar (which I did not attend). But I really liked the class and the things he taught us. I have been working out and doing a lot of cardio recently (past week) so I felt reallly good in the gym today. Three weeks until the tournament, Border Buckeye Challange in Ohio, so I think I will be ready for this blue belt division. Last edited by MitsubishiOwn; 06/25/2011 at 02:46 PM. |

Sorry for like theree posts in a row but here it is...
Tournament in Toledo, Ohio this coming Saturday July 16th. I will be doing the adult blue belt division along with the Open Adult Blue Belt division, and the advanced no-gi, probably the absolute division too. It is called the Border Buckeye Challange I am pretty sure and it should be a decent tournament. I competed in it last year and did well.. Problem is yesterday I was going against a purple belt in our gym just during training and idk what his problem was but he put me in a kumora and about ripped my fucking shoulder off. Hes really good and caught me in about three kumoras during that roll. And the first one he caught me in was the one that messed my shoulder up. He tried taking my fucking arm home with him for some reason. Today it hurts pretty good but I will be competing anyways. |

The last three or so years for some reason my family has been being lazy and they don't tape my matches anymore. I really wish they would so I can learn from my mistakes. Normally when the match is over I forget most of what happened. I have been training three days a week, two hours each day and I plan on doing this for the next 2 months so I will be ready for the Tournament on December 3rd. It is going to be a no-gi tournament so it should be interesting. I plan on going against the kid who broke my arm and I am excited about that. My goal right now is to get good enough to beat him. To be honest I am not even close right now but my the end of these 2 months I will be able to pull it off. I will be doing the Adult Advanced Division at whatever weight class 160pounders fall into.

Yeah they don't go to my tournaments really anymore but there are always a lot of guys at my gym there. I will start having them tape my matches. There is no-gi tournament in Michigan December 3rd that I will be competing in. I already know it will be ran horribly but I don't care I want to compete. Been training three days a week, which still isn't enough. So starting this week I am training 7 days a week and working out with weights three days a week.
On another note. Three guys from my gym went and did the no-gi worlds in Cali this week. And the 16 year old kid who is a blue belt came in second place in the adult no-gi worlds. Quite impressive other two purple belts had tough matches but didn't do bad. Edit: Going to start that P90X diet too. Last edited by MitsubishiOwn; 11/06/2011 at 06:03 PM. |

I will try getting some videos up this week of my matches the past two weekends!
Two weekends ago I did the Mid-West No-Gi grappling championships or something like that and I competed in the Blue Belt Light Weight Division where I won my first match by straight arm bar, then for first/second I lost to my friend from my gym. So I got second in that division. My next division was the Blue Belt Adult Open division which is all weights. My first match the guy was about 240 pounds 6'2" and I beat him with a straight arm bar. Then my second match I went against a guy who was about 6'0" and 230 pounds ended up submitting him with a straight arm bar as well. For my third match the guy was like 6'5" 240 and I beat him on points. Lastly for my finals match so First/Second I lost by a straight arm bar. I tapped super early before he even got close to straightening my arm out due to it being the same arm I broke like almost 2 years ago. I didn't want to risk it. So I ended up with second place in both divisions. I am about 6'1" 160 lbs. Then the next weekend after that tournament I competed in another no-gi tournament which was a super small and dumb tournament with only 6 guys in my advanced division counting me and four of them were from my gym. So my first match I went against a purple belt from my gym and lost by kimora, then my second match I won by rear naked choke, for my third match I lost by triangle choke to a guy from my gym :/ |

Yeah I understand man! I have had to do that more than a few times. Next tournament I plan on doing is the Michigan Open I think it is September 28th. The gym I train at runs the tournament every year and there is always a really good turn out.

I might be able to make that. My knee should be doing better by then. My manager just got married, had a baby, and bought a new house, so I told her to take some time off and not worry about booking a fight too soon. My new contract doesnt take effect until my first fight, so I'm in no rush
