I think that 20 gram thing came out of the old days when protein was just a crappy whey source that when you took in more than 20gms made you sit on the pot all afternoon. Times have changed. |

Protein Intake
Ok guys,
I have been reading that your body can only absorb a certain amount of protein at a time. So for instance, when I come home from the gym and make my protein shake (taking a 600 cal, 52 g protein, 80 g carbs per serving shake) Am I wasting it by drinking it all at once? Should I just drink half when I get home and the other before sleep? And how does that affect the protein I get from dinner? What do you guys recommend, dont wanna be wasting my money and protein down the pooper. |

Yes you can only absorb a certain amount at once. But that depends on a factor of things. It the blend strictly soy?egg?whey?casien? All of which have different absorbtion rates. How much your body can actually absorb at once varies. Then the simple fact you dont actually absord 100% of the protein you take it.
So while you are taking in 50gm, you might only be absorbing 35-40gm of it. The goal really is, is to at no point have your body starving for nutrients. For that reason i break my shakes up periodicly throughout the day. I have Muscle Milk for instance and i do 1 scoop in the morning, before workout, after workout, and before bed. So that totals in me taking in 2 servings of it a day(2 scoops=1serving for Muscle Milk). I would say for you to do the same, break up the servings you take in throughout the day. Atleast that is for a whey protein. Also if you want to time realease it and slow absorbtion and increase your bodies intake add it in milk. But dont do that after the gym, that is the time you want to fuel it in as fast as possible. |

Well I take it in the morning as it is, half a serving (2 scoops with milk). Then I was taking a full serving after the gym with milk. Last night I changed it to a half serving with water after the gym and a half serving with milk before bed. Should I stick with my old routine?
