January '07

The old powerplant. 6G72 with Automatic Trans.

The fun began April '10. Picked up the 6G75 with only 21k on it.

New timing belt and water pump of course.

Less than a month after getting the 75, out comes the 72.

2 days later, the first non-mivec 6G75 of the platform lives.

On the dyno at Car Craft

The Brembos were recently installed. Unfortunately after the cookout.

And finally, it's current state as of the All-Mitsu Cookout and Car Show

Looks just as good over here as it does on TGC. You shouldn't have waited so long, and once again - Great job on the car.

Thanks guys! I don't know if it's really "hiding" that I've been doing. Staying low-key is more my style. I just figured I'd wait until I got to a point where it's worth sharing.

Silvertune is correct, the numbers are untuned. I have the tactrix 2.0 cable, but having the bastard child '99 ECU sucks. It appears to be flashable according to the test write in ECUflash, but I'll probably throw in the '01 ECU I have laying around since the ROM info is accessible.

Oh, Silvertune, whenever you want to do the clutch, I'll be around. I will be in my winter beater SHO since the tranny in the Galant went "Boom!" last week.

Sweet ride M-Rod!
You should paint that valve cover or the lettering on it. It'd look even more fresh.

So again, how difficult is the non MIVEC 6G75 swap? Looks like almost a direct drop in.

Using parts from the 74 and 72 it IS drop in, other than the obvious tune.

With the correct parts from different motors, it's a drop in. You need parts from a 72 and 74 to make it work.

M-Rod, what did you do about your shifter boot? Obviously the 3G boot doesn't work. Is the Integra boot the way to go?

Pharm, I used a Mazda MX-6 / 2G Ford Probe boot. It barely fits, but it was free at the local yard so I have no complaints with it. I'm sure the Integra boot fits similar.

neb, the old engine is just sitting in the garage. No idea really what to do with it. I've been waiting to find a 3G locally with a snapped t-belt for cheap and throw it in. Haven't come across one all summer so I'm not sure. I've been thinking about posting it on craigslist for $100 so I'm not sitting on it forever.

140k. Stock 6G72, never been opened. The only thing I ever had to replace were valve cover gaskets. Ran great when removed.

the easiest way to go about having a stock looking shifter in the galant is to just get the integra boot. yes. however, in order to have it sit right you dremel out the inside of the auto selector prnd21 and wrap the boot around that and screw it in.

a few of us including myself have gone as far as taking the evo console cutting and molding that to the stock bezel as well which is relatively simple since the overall shape is the same.

Oooh my old thread. I guess a few things have changed. Mostly cosmetic in the past year. JDM VR-4 front end conversion.

Don't worry about the slow car in the middle

Ripping it apart to replace the core support.

New wheels.

More cosmetics to come by Spring.

Alex, do you remember Schmitty with the silver evo? He bought them. As a matter of fact his car is in the picture with Justin's.

Rusty, that picture is on Skyline Drive in Duluth.

That car in the middle... I miss that car in the middle. It actually looks something like yours right now with the front end taken off.

Can we do your rear bushings now that you've got new tires?

Wheels are Rota Boost 17x8 +35 with a 5mm spacer to clear the Brembo calipers.

Justin, I'm down for the bushings. After I pull off the manifolds for porting.

I just don't get putting brembo brakes on a galant. Or any other car that will never have the speed, acceleration, or handling to warrant such phenomenal brakes.

Do you not realize your car is nothing more than a "Galant" with 2 less doors? Just because your 3.0 "will never have the speed, acceleration, or handling to warrant such phenomenal brakes" doesn't mean somebody else's wont. My car made just about what a stock Evo would put to the wheels 2 summers ago, and that was without a tune still. Besides, I don't want to deal with brake fade from the stock 2 piston calipers while autocrossing or on the road course at BIR. So they are more than just some type of cosmetic novelty.

To everybody else, thanks for the compliments.

Justin, I'm pulling the intake manifolds tonight. Let me know when you want to meet up.

I was hoping someone would put something other than an eyeroll emoticon.. Yes I know my car is a galant with two doors, which is why I would never spend the better part of $1k on brakes.. And your car might have put down "just about" what a stock evo did but it will never have anywhere near the handling capabilities of an Evo. I mean it's your car and your money do what you want I just think that money could be better spent on this car for other performance upgrades.

Maybe he's done what he wants for Performance upgrades, and this was next on his list. I know Matt want's to go FI somewhere in the future, which once that happens, his car will shit all over most Evo's on AutoX or anywhere else.

And in the end, Galants, 3G's, Strat's, all look better than a Fugly Evo.

Did you not see the comments regarding running the car in auto X / road course? Brembos are a VERY affordable BBK upgrade for our platform. Our puny little shits of single piston calipers cant even compare. Lets keep his Build thread in a more positive view, as he's making more progress with his vehicle that many members can only dream about.

Matt hit me up with a txt when you get a chance this week. I have the aluminum stock to make yours and Cody's adapters, I just need a template for the manifold side. If you still want the lower done I'd like to be there for its removal, while the 74 lower fits the 74 heads on the lower flange almost perfectly I'm going to bet its got some room to come out on the 75 and I want to net you everything I can. Between the port work, adapter and a tune we should be able to net you a good 15whp. You're gonna need a clutch this summer!

Made the trip to Factory MOD this past weekend with Silvertune. We took my car and met with the awesome GLR guys and gals. Thanks for the great day!

All was well except for one slight mishap on the drive to IL, which Rob (Voodoo) was so kind to capture for me.

And the close-up.

Needless to say, the JDM bumper is no match for a semi-truck tire at 70mph.
