Mr. SoLoDoLo's Work in Progress (02 GT)
So it has been a few months since I have posted here and the reason being is I have been so caught up with school and some other sh*t but now that I'm out, I have had some time to work on the 'clipse. I know I said that I would try to get it working mechanically first before I would start on body work but I lied, so since you last saw my car that had very bad cancer New Member... Well Sorta.
I have been working my ass off sanding the whole thing and now I am close to the priming stage. Once I am done with the priming stage I am going to take it some place to get it diagnosed. It is weird because it cranks but wont start and there is no check engine light. I have replaced many things like the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and fuses but it won't start. ![]() Anyways this is just a progress thread and I plan on keeping you guys updated! I plan on finishing this car by the beginning of July. Day before I started working on it. Do you guys like those wheels on it or not? I am debating whether I should get some new ones or not. ![]() First day of work getting it ready for sanding. ![]() Month later... ![]() ![]() Replaced radiator, spar plugs and wires, and cleaned engine bay (still needs some cleaning) ![]() Got bored one day... ![]() Oh and can someone tell me what this is, I pulled it of when I was replacing the spark plugs.

i hope they dont need to be polished and they need to be clear coated instead other then that its coming along nicely a alot of degreaser and a pressure washer to the engine compartment.

To be honest, I might be weird for saying this but I actually like the look of the 00-02 bumper more! Just needs a grill in my opinion. And I really didn't feel like buying all the stuff as I am a high school student on a tight budget. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Alright, its been almost a month now and the weather finally was acceptable to paint so it got painted yesterday,
it turned out well except for a few runs but I'm sure there is away to fix those oh and another problem which you will see...My makeshift paint booth! ![]() Da 'clipse! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() To go along with the paint job... ![]() Now for the imperfections... ![]() Just one of the runs. ![]() And the thing I feared most... ![]() BUGS! This little moth thought it would be OK to get stuck in my clearcoat and crawl around. ![]() Do you guys think that I can buff/sand it out? And do you guys know of any good ways to get those damn runs out? |

Use water based paint? Otherwise, that box fan could have been a source of spark and an eclipse flambe...
I like the spray booth ingenuity though, too bad about the moth. Next time add some flypaper strips and moth balls

Props on the home-made paint booth.
I've been looking making one myself. As for the paint, you can try wet sanding it. When I painted mine I had a few heavy runs on one side, and I also had some little fly stuck in it. I wet sanded both out. I used a single stage urethane though so idk if it will work as well with your paint

Red Sun: Indeed, no bueno!
![]() KreepyZeke: I think it's water-based. I'll check. KidKobe210: Do you remember how coarse the sandpaper you used was? wright06jhs: No, it's hard to see but it was masked. So I took some more pics as I started to put stuff back on... ![]() ![]() Reppin' ![]() After my car became accessible, I was reaquainted with the clutter of parts. ![]()

UPDATE: I took my car to my local mechanic about a week ago and I learned that my timing belt snapped... The belt was supposed to last 100,000 miles but I got about 40,000 out of it. (Don't buy NAPA timing belts, they are garbage.) So long story short my eclipse will need a new engine. Luckily I found one for about 450$ that would be coming out of a 2000 Galant that is relatively close. It has around 80,000 or so miles on it. This car is a NIGHTMARE.
Is the 6G72 that is in a 2000 Galant compatible with a 2002 Eclipse GT? I'm guessing it is but I need confirmation. Last edited by Mr. SoLoDoLo; 07/30/2012 at 10:45 PM. |

love the make shift paint booth. good job on the repaint.
last time I checked isn't it illegal to swap the motor of an older model car into a newer chassis? I believe you have to use a motor of same year or newer. correct me if I'm wrong though |

UPDATE: Car is now running after an engine swap. The car still has some work needed done to it like a recently discovered bad lower passenger-side control arm. I will likely get some pics up soon!

Well, I have really been busy with school/work but I finally got the chance to snap some pics of the car the other day after a car wash...
![]() ![]() ![]() My somewhat new engine! Finally got around to installing my SRI. ![]() Tell me what you guys think! I Feedback!.Ps: I have a GT engine, if anybody needs any parts off it, feel free to PM me. (Keep in mind it has been overheated before, but many of the parts are still good.) |

I think those rims look absolutely terrible on it, just cause of the way they're painted. You need them to be a darker black and glossy IMO. But theyre a nice style regardless

Plastidip did the trick.

Update:
So it's been a while and the 'clipse has been driving fine except for a noticeable transmission slip here and there. Haven't changed much really, the only two things I can think of are new headlights and I put in my Kenwood HU. Also I plan on putting my new tires on next week... (I apologize for how dirty my car is but in all honesty I just got a car wash yesterday... living on a gravel road is a bitch) ![]() ![]() Just to show how dirty it was after ONE day... ![]() ![]() And the Lights... ![]()

Update: This week, the giant ass snowstorm hit and as some of you know our cars are not the best for snowy driving so I got my new tires installed. Also, I finally got around to getting my windows tinted to go with the blacked out look. My front windows are 32% tint and my hatch and small side windows are 20% tint.
![]() Now for the tint... Overall ![]() Side ![]() Hatch
