You do realize that the "4 banger" Eclipse engine is a much better turbo platform to begin with, right?

Also, I have a suggestion instead of having "Evolution" on the back, why don't you change it to "GSX"? I think it would be MUCH more fitting.

Don't worry about what some of the idiots here say. The car is damn sick man. Im not big on the silver swirl on it, but its your car. If it makes YOU happy then that is what matters.

The only thing I would change on that car is either go wingless or get an EVO Combat Wing.

Oh, and BTW, I think your other projects are kick ass too!

I have to agree, the kit is not to my taste. It is very expertly done, though, and seeing it in person is a wholly different experience than seeing just the pics. No shortcuts, and it all flows very nicely!

As an aside, last time I saw Mike (bluebomber) he mentioned something I found interesting. The modding on this car actually began with that aftermarket bumper. He replaced the OEM one with this EVO style front, repainted, and... well, you see where it went from there.

Yeah. Thus his use of "to begin with".
We four bangers basically have a detuned Evo engine with a longer stroke under our hoods. Mike has capitalized on this. I can't wait until he gets that Evo VIII head on there to finish the transformation.

Hrmm, plot thickens :P, I'm working on doing this conversion too myself on my 02' eclipse GT. I had a couple questions though, like why didn't he use a GSX Drive shaft *I'm not sure if it will match up with an evo tranny yet cause nobody can give me a spline count* and when he said 2G control arms in the parts, is that just the rear, upper and lower, or all around, all control arms?

1) I believe the GSX driveshaft isn't long enough. The 3G (and EVO 8) has a longer wheel base. Also, he used the Evo8 rear differential, so ...why mix & match?
B) 2G control arms are for the rear along with axles & brake assembly. Front is stock.
3) If you're "working on doing this" using the evo tranny on your GT... Stop! Won't bolt to your block, unfortunately.

Thanks for that note! lol. Maybe there are other possibilities for a tranny, possibly montero 4x4 or sumthing... Thanks for the heads up though! Does the evo tranny just not have the same bolt patter, or is it too small or too big for the bolt holes?

You could bolt up a VR4 tranny, the 3KGT's have the same block as our cars. Thats the easy part, knowing it will mate to the block. The hard part would be how to mount the tranny and AWD system under the chassis.

Nice work. I don't care for the visual aspects of the car, but to each their own. I do, however, think the "Evolution" sticker is in poor taste, but again, it's your car. However, you should get rid of what sounded like the HK$ SSQ BOV.

The Evo trany holds the starter at the bottom by the oil pan and the evo 8 oil pan has a notch for the starter to fit there, so now as far as using the evo turbo I no longer have the starter in the way.

Thats freakin awesome. I assume that takes care of all the aftermarket placement that is good with the EVO's but interferes with our starter too!

I could be wrong but I am pretty sure in a turbo configuration the less back pressure you have the quicker the the turbo will spool, I barely notice any turbo lag with my set up, and if I loose a little torque to make the car look that much better thats fine with me.

They are Sport Max wheels.

does it track straight down the road, how did it look when they put it on the alignment rack?

Yeah still is running nothing is broken all is well, I don't know where someone would have heard that. I just work so much I don't have a lot of time to have fun with it, that and my tags are expired which doesn't help either.
Also I limit the driving till I can find an ACD pump for the transfer case to work properly.

It been a while since my last update, so heres whats next.
I will be doing the evo head swap and heres what I will be working with:

For the record yes the valve cover is damaged and I am currently in search of a new one.

Also I am getting ready to fabricate a tubular cross member for the awd conversion at my recently opened shop, which will correct for the evo knuckles deference for alignment and better located the sway bar and create easier access to the P/S rack and lines. And of course create a few copies to sell.

As far as the head swap goes I am finding it hard to find an answer on one thing, I know I can use the evo timing belt as long as I use adjustable cam gears, but do you need the adj. cam gears if you use the 94 galant dohc timing belt?

can you guesstimate how much the tubular cross member is going to cost?

Very nice. What sort of performance gains are you anticipating with the Evo headswap in conjunction with your turbo?

Amazing car, shows the community that AWD can be done, and has been. Thanks for paving the roads for the 3G community! For the record, this car should have been COTM a long while ago.
