Iammclovin804 : who are you?
First Post!

Hello everyone! I want to start this off with a little bit about myself. I'm in the USMC. Currently stationed in Hawaii. I've never owned an eclipse or any foreign car before for that matter but this deal was too good to pass up plus I needed another car. I'm about to pick up a 2000 eclipse gt standard trans for 800 bucks. Won't start and needs some rust repair but otherwise decent. Body is all stock save for some projector headlights. I'm really excited to get to work on this one! First thought is fuel pump or relay because I can't hear it prime when I turn the key. I don't know what is done mechanically as the hood won't open. Once I get her in the garage as start the mini restoration process I'll be sure to post pics!

Iammclovin804 : who are you?
Alright I'm just gonna make this as my problems/questions thread. So far I have gathered that I need to remove the rear seats to get to the fuel pump. My question is, what special tool do I need to get it out? All I've read is I need a "special Mitsubishi tool" to take it out. Also, any other things I should look out for in this other then relieving fuel system pressure, which there shouldn't be any but might as well be safe. My neighbor just found the key so I'll be bringing it into the garage tomorrow morning. Fuel pump won't get here for about a week though. Thanks for any help

Lol thank you everybody. So my neighbor was mistaken. It's an 03. Only has 34k miles too

Only mods are CAI and a muffler

Little rust hole. Nothing I can't fix.

Shitty weld in my opinion.

Already got the pump pulled.

Got rid of the hulk head the PO had just sitting on there.

Cheapest car for mileage?

ZIG-GTS can pretty much be considered an idiot by all
I don't think that's on 03, they started a new bumper style in 03 that one has the earlier model. Great price for the mileage, based on the interior it has sat outside for the last 10 years of its life lol. Nothing too horrid though.

FYI, Its is a 2003. They only made the GTS 2003-2005, I can also tell its a 03+ by the interior. They started the blue/black interior in 2003. Also the guage cluster is the all black on, not the grey one the 00-02 models had.

This just means either the front was damaged in a way that they had to replace the bumper cover or the original owner wanted the 00-02 bumper cover.

Great price, but the body needs a lot of work. I have never seen the roof rust like that.

Hmm. Title says 03. I'll have to look up the vin when I get a chance. It sucks I have to wait for the 10th to get my fuel pump. Overall I dont think the car is that bad. I just gotta find a stock muffler, get the new pump in, then get it inspected and I have a road worthy car for maybe a grand.
So it's a gts not a gt? Sorry I'm new to this whole scene.

Yeah I bought the pump last night. I forgot I had a PayPal balance so it ended up only actually costing me 25 bucks.

I got bored today and since I have to wait for the fuel pump which has been "dispatched to sort facility" for two days now, I'm assuming wont be here for a while. I looked around the engine bay and found that the return fuel line had been cut. So I patched that back together and I'm debating hooking the old pump back up to see if that might have been the issue. But judging by the lack of fuel all over my floor I doubt it.

Put the new pump in and nothing. It isn't even sucking up fuel and my lines are bone dry. Any ideas?

Hawaii? Nice. I was just there a few weeks ago on vacation- I only saw one Eclipse and that was on Maui (none in Waikiki), so it should stand out pretty well once you get the bodywork fixed. I can imagine how slow shipping would be on parts! I saw on the problem reports forum you got the relays fixed, how's the motor run?

Its got a nasty tick but otherwise smooth. I pulled off the timing covers last night and found that everything was all out of wack. Left bank cam was 90 degrees off to the right and the right bank cam was about 140 degrees off. The crank was 180 degress out. But i got it timed again. Decided to call it a night once i got it timed. Figured id put it back together tonight. But as far as eclipses' go on oahu, 3 of my neighbors have them lol
