Turbo?

I recently just bought an 02 eclipse and noticed theres a turbo system in it. But through looking at it, i noticed it was one of the ebay turbos and was wondering, should I make it a priority to replace and get a better turbo or should I not worry about it? The car itself has been fine to me so far with no problems

Caught me off guard as well. You'd think that would be something you would notice during the test drive. Not to mention looking in the engine bay...

Willing to bet its one of those intake "turbo" turbine wheels that restrict airflow....

Well the only problem i seem to find is when i first start it, it seems like it struggles to idle but besides that, it runs fine. Im noticing a little boost but im now starting to learn about turbo and whatnot so cant truly tell. And what am i suppose to do about moving it around?

U mean the idle?
Its most likely the position of
your MAFS. Just put a filter on it.

Dude, you need to chill. Before trying to act all tough and try to make me feel stupid, get your facts straight. I obviously popped the hood when i first got it so dont get it twisted thinking i drove a whole year without ever looking at it, for i just got the car. So before you start calling people ignorant, work on not being ignorant yourself

X2 the maf and where the filter go are completely separate right now. Never heard of a filter solving an idle problem in the first place.

no one has noticed the maf sensor is mounted backwards as well. maf sensor adapter should not go towards throttle body even witha blow through setup so the ecu cannot accurately read airflow. best thing for you to do to make sure it is running well is put an intake on the turbo with the maf sensor on that (filter on the adapter then housing side to turbo via coupler) then goto a local shop that oyu know has experience with evo's and have them check out the tune and retune if necessary

it sounds like he just needs a better tune. it is possible to have a push thru set up like his and still work just fine. but then again we still dont know what psi he is boosting to either or how it is being tuned/managed.

The MAF is fine in a blow-through setup. I ran one for a long time, but it IS backwards, so flip it around. Stick a filter on the turbo and drive the car.

There should be arrows in the maf housing indication airflow direction.

love how everyone blames the maf when its just backwards,

same thing its just in a blow through config and its actually better because any leaks from the turbo piping wont matter.. and no he wont have to recirculate the bov. Why would you recirculate it if its before the maf? Any lost air will still be read through the maf.

Ok, so i added an intake filter a couple days ago, but today i noticed the filter itself fell off and now the engine is louder than usual so does that mean something probably got into the turbo or?

same thing its just in a blow through config and its actually better because any leaks from the turbo piping wont matter.. and no he wont have to recirculate the bov. Why would you recirculate it if its before the maf? Any lost air will still be read through the maf.
i actually have actual logs why you dont want to blow thru our MAS. More than 8psi and the timing goes nuts, its a tuning nightmare, its a restriction as well.

If you want to do a proper blow thru set up use a maft or go speed density

I thought draw-thru was the preferred turbo setup too.

Anyway, what 'fell off' from where? Got another photo?

How and why did the filter fall off??? Did you have it on all the way, was it clamped??

That'd be the best feeling ever. Parents buying a car and looking under to see a turbo... Regardless if its right or not, the oppertunity is there to make it right. That's a dang good find.
