Lexan w/ CF Hatch

What would be the best way to make a strong weatherproofed adhesion between a CF hatch and lexan? I have been searching for it and cannot find much. All of the threads I have read up on just balance weight gains/losses and if it's beneficial. Any ideas?

I had looked into that, but a lot of people said it dried funky colors. Not trying to make my car look like it's a disaster art project...

it should not dry funky colors. it is the same stuff that holds in an oem windsheild, the 3m stuff has always dryed the same color it came out of the tube for me. (black)

Re: Lexan w/ CF Hatch

That is why the outside 1 to 2 inches of most windows are blacked out so no one can see the adhesive.

On the drag car we drilled holes in the perimeter of the lexan and bolted it in. You're building a drag car out of a 3g?

I would use window urethane as well. Even if it dries a bit yellow, who cares, you're building for function, correct? It's not like lexan looks as good as glass after a while

I never heard of it changing colors... is it a 3M product or some look-a-like?

My hatch decided to rust through under the emblem, so I figured if I'm gonna buy a hatch it might as well be cf! And not really a 'drag car', but definitely not my dd. Eventually I want it to drag, but that's a story in itself. And other people have told me to screw it on so I could change it out, but 3M sounds smarter.

Black window urethane ..... we use it all the time lol it stays black. If i was you i would rivet that bitch incause everytime you open and shut your doors you put cabin pressre in and actualy move your window and being lexan and light weight. With you driving aswell it could goo woosh. Right out.rivet it in amd then take black and out a nice small paint line to.hide them around the window. I know my punctuation is bad right now, im on phone and im tired as hell. Good luck cant wait to see i loved my cf hatch please stay wingless.

Planning on wingless forsure! I was thinking to rivet it, only problem with that is getting caught in rain... Hmmm... I guess no matter what I do there will def be ups and downs. And thanks for the cabin pressure comment. Never thought of that. Makes sense.

Your local glass shop should be able to help you out.

After contacting quite a few places in my area I cannot seem to find much of anything. Anyone else know of any places that manufacture or could produce lexan or something similar to the OEM rear hatch shape?

I haven't read the entire thread, but if you could make a mold of the outside of the glass you might be able to heat form the lexan/material to the original OEM shape.

theres no company that produces lexan glass for the 3g. There's a shop in chicago (forgot the name) that claims they can make one if you send out your hatch to them. They way our hatch bends makes it very difficult to make out of lexan. This is why i havent done it yet but i have something in the making

Yea, I have thought about this, but with the contours of the glass I highly doubt I could shape it without an oven big enough to heat it. :l
