1998 240sx?
I'm looking around for a car I can work with (turbo, tune, etc.) and possibly just keep my 3g as a DD. What's your opinion on a 1998 Nissan 240sx? Do you have any other recommendations?

$$$$$$$$$$ due to ricer popularity. Fox body stangs are always cheap.

Before this car fell in my lap I was looking for a 93 Mustang GT 5.0 convertible, similar to the one Caine had in Menace II Society, but dark blue/silver :drool

Are you planning to build a track car? If so, I agree Rulez. Get something mid-engined. I used to have a Bertone (Fiat) X1/9 and it made for an awesome track car. I really wish I kept it to be honest. They're dirt cheap, and relatively easy to work on.

I second Bitter's post. They are a lot due to Ricer/Drifter wannabe's. Especially the 1989 to I think 1992 fastback versions in Manual. Good luck on that. Funny Automatics are so much cheaper then the Manuals.. I wonder why...

I believe you Bitter. Just figured I'd throw it out there for a car I rarely see, but can be made into quite the track car.

my cousin had one-- looked really nice. but he always liked bringing up how they used it for a pace car in a nascar race and gm had to soup it up just to get it to the pace speed limit.

I believe you can swap in a late mode 3.8 V6 with little fuss, probably even the supercharged ones.

You're absolutely right, Bitter. The supercharged 3.8 goes in with relative ease from my understanding. Making it quite the quick car.

back on topic.. my brother had been looking for a 240 for a while, and anything cheap-ish, in the $2-5k area, is usually rusted to the point that it's a miracle the car hasn't just folded up on it's self..

How small a budget? Anything less than 5K and you're looking at a civic with a swap.

get a bigger budget then. $7-8K will get you a very nice Celica GTS 6 speed which runs mid 15's with a good driver all day easily.

A kouki 240sx will run you easy over 5k, those cars are rare.
If you're looking to find a budget race/fun car, then go for a Miata, or a AW11 MR2, the cars are super cheap, cheaper to build, and even cheaper to fix, plus they are great driver cars. |

Miata or Fox body all day at that price point. No brainer in my opinion.
BTW, I had an 86 Fiero GT when I was in high school, my dad and I (well, mostly my dad ) had swapped in a Cadillac Northstar V8. A lot of fun, and too much fun for the kid I sold it too; he wrapped it around a phone pole after a few months.

My buddy has two Z32 300's, one TT and the other is NA. If easy maintenance and easy modding is what your looking for then id stay away from them. The engine bay on the TT is crammed as hell, to the point where you need to pull the engine for minor repair jobs. But if that isnt an issue then go for it, the TT's haul. Have you thought about a 3000gt vr-4?

I own a twin turbo Z32, and I will partially agree with you when it comes to modding. Maintenance is pretty straight-forward and the car will last a very long time if you keep it up, but the engine bay is unbelievably cramped and some of the things are a real bitch to work on. However if you choose your mods carefully, you can get fantastic gains from basic bolt-ons that are not invasive and don't require you to pull the engine. Sure, upgrading turbos are a great bang-for-the-buck, but I'm not a fan of pulling the motor to do that. Doing breather mods (dual-MAF Selin intakes, upgraded SMICs That is the route I am going for; I already have full exhaust and dualMAF intakes, doing Nismo 740cc injectors and a tune sometime in the next week or two. Ash-Specs and upgraded piping is next. I'd like to hit 400whp, and then leave it alone. This is my Z. I think 240s are badass cars, a blast to drive, and much easier to work on; in my opinion though the Z is far sexier.

Fucking +1.
Get a Miata. Parts are cheap and they are great track cars. Awesome shot of the Z, Mark.

You can try an RX-7. Those are fairly decent.
As for a 240, they are pretty fun, from what I've seen from my friend. It was clean until he got into to many drifting accident's. The car has so much bondo on it we nick-named him Bondo-Man. |

my friend has a couple 240's, they are alot of fun, they aren't very fast in a straight line but you can get them sideways all day long, i've actually considered getting one but modding 2 cars at once would drain my bank pretty quick

For 5k u can get a real nice boosted 240 just comb craigslist. and you can for sure get a 1st gen 300zx turbo for ur price range. Or a 2nd gen na z32 300zx. Na will ne best if u dont wanna maintain the turbo cars. Just my opinion.
