SVTJayC : who are you?
Well that's the same engine as the mazdaspeed 6, which means you should be able to tune it back up to 280hp just by reflashing for 93 octane. So far that seems to be the only difference between the 240 and 280hp versions. (91 vs 93)

Not bad, I like it actually. Nice upgrade from the previous versions. THe power and the lighter weight will make it a awesome car for the track. Im sure you could sqeeze out 300-400whp without too much difficulty.

If I cut down on my mileage.. I may trade the speed6 in when my lease is due. But giving up the Speed6 isn't going to be easy! I'll have to take it for a test run

Intake and intercooler alone would put it to 300 I'd bet.

I think that looks fantastic. I would still rather give up the open top for 4 doors and a hatch and get the faster Mazda3 instead, but if you are in the market for a sub-$30K roadster I would happily take this over a Sky/Solstice or Mini Cooper (does that really count as a "roadster"?)

Actually, since the 'Speed Miata will be using the same powerplant as the 'Speed3 whilst weighing a few hundred lbs. less, the Miata should be a few ticks faster

Whoa. This is going to be the roadster to be had for less than $30k.

Wow, that concept one looks pretty damn nice. If I were in the roadster market I would definitely choose this over a Sky Redline, Solstice GXP, or Stook. Hopefully this new Speed Miata comes with a LSD. I beleive the older one did.

Most likely the same setup from the MS3/6. Considering MZR can put out nearly 270 CHP on those two platforms, it's a safe bet something is definitely holding it back in the MSM.

Only base trim Miatas have ever had open differentials. All grand touring and performance trims have included LSD's.

Traction, I'd say. Remember that Miatas can't fit much rubber back there and the overall weight, especially the weight over the rear wheels, is pretty small.

That's true. Even if it "only" has 240 HP, I bet it's still orgasmic to drive.
