awesome work imo. it would be a bad-ass sleeper if it wasn't for the typical v-8 rumbling. hmm, now if i could only swap a vr-4 motor in my 3G.

I liked the company that was swapping in the 03+ Cobra motor. That was bad ass, but also retained all of the "stockness" of a modern motor.

Hard to believe they have a FWD transaxle that can stand up to the abuse. |

I remember seeing vids of a few of them on the internet some time ago. The thing that strikes me most, is hearing a V8 rumble from a Focus; it just sounds so out of place. It's like watching a lumberjack sing opera, or something along those lines.

I think JR is referring to a VR4 drivetrain swap in a 3G. |

Can't be terribly expensive either. You can get a used ZX3 for pennies on the dollar now. Doesn't matter how many miles, you're gutting it anyway. Say you even wanted a top of the line model like ATI used. You could easily get a used SVT for ~10k, probably sell the motor/trans for a few hundred. All said and done, i think you could get something on the road for under 20k like that. If you were going bargain basement, even cheaper. The cool thing is that Ford Racing actually got into this, and built a lot of the parts you would normally need to fab yourself, and sells them out of the catalog.

Ah, now this one is my favorite... http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...hini_gallardo/ http://www.streetracersonline.com/articles/rs8/ Ford Racing did one using the Focus RS from Europe as the donor, and the 5.0 Cammer motor as the crate. 420hp, 2860lbs. That was pretty bad ass too, and retained a very stock appearance. Cost 104k though. MT estimated what it would cost for you to build you own (assuming you were going with everying new and couldnt buy an RS) and came up with 66k But the conversion parts alone to get the motor in: Kugel Komponents rear-drive conversion kit $6,000 8.8-inch, 4.10:1 Traction-Lok Axle $799 T-5 transmission bell-housing $195 T-5 5-speed manual transmission $1,395 Hurst shifter $180 T-5 leather shift boot $75 T-5 leather shift knob $45 V-8 clutch Linkage $49 Heavy-duty clutch kit $260 = ~9500 + Crate Motor + Donor Focus So assuming all new parts... I was a bit on the low ball, but Definitely doable for 20k. As I know where you can get a Free Focus. I still think it would be a cool project. Last edited by SVTJayC; 06/30/2006 at 04:05 PM. |

Well, ill restate that, it would be a cool project for someone who had an extra 20k laying around, and a garage.
