HOW TO: Install a Tranny Cooler with Tranny Filter

Transmission coolers not only drop your transmission temperature giving you more responsive shifts, but it also extends your transmissions life. The transmission filter helps catch any debris floating around in the transmission fluid, it is not needed but recommended and it doesnt take much more to install.

The flow path for the fluid with all the new parts will be from the tranny to the stock tranny cooler, to the aftermarket cooler, to the tranny filter, and then back to the tranny. The tranny out is denoted in the below picture by the number 2 on the top. 2.5 is the return line.

Parts Needed:
1-Transmission Cooler Kit
1-Transmission Filter Kit
1-8ft Section of Transmission Hose
8-Clamps
1-Transmission Temp Gauge (optional)
Teflon Tape
10-Qrts of Transmission fluid from a Mitsu Dealership (Not all tranny fluid will work in the 3g this is your warning!)

Tools Needed:
Socket Wrench with assortment of sizes
Flat Head Scew Driver
Needle Nose Pilers
Jack
Jack Stands

First off, if you dont know how to take the front end of your car off you probably shouldn't be attempting this mod by yourself.

1. Drain Radiator of all fluids both coolant and transmission.
2. Remove both radiator coolant hoses.
3. Remove the transmission line that runs from the radiator to the transmission.
4. Remove horn unit (If you want to locate the transmission filter in a different spot then this step is not needed)
5. Make sure all threads on the Transmission filter have teflon tape on them.
6. Use existing threaded hole from horn unit to screw on the transmission filter assembly.
7. Place the transmission cooler on the front of the radiator in the desired location. (You can put it in a different spot if you want, but this is the recommended spot by B&M)
8. Fasten down the transmission cooler with provided straps.
9. Cut to lenght 3 sections of hose (I dont know the lenghts I used, but just test fit sections before making cuts) (1 section from the stock cooler to the new cooler, 1 section from the new cooler to the filter and 1 section from the filter to the transmission)

10. Tighten down Clamps at all ends of the new hose.
11. Re-install coolant hoses

12. Re-fill coolant in the radiator
13. Make sure you add more fluid to your transmission. I used around 9 quarts (9 qrts in Sporty GT, different ammounts for other models)
14. Look to make sure all your lines are clear of the cooling fans and also other moving objects.
15. Start your car and check for leaks.
16. Enjoy 20-30 degree cooler transmission temperatures.
