bad clutch

I think i need a new clutch My car has been slipping a lot, when i press in the pedal the rpm will shoot up and then grip. I had to get an seal for leaking trans fluid but never got that yet. Could that possibly be the reason? if the trans fluid is really low. I also did the clutch test by putting it into 4th and it doesnt stall or jerk

Your post is confusing and you will need to be much clearer in the future if you expect help.

So you push the clutch pedal to the floor and the rpms raise up and then the clutch grips again? That doesn't make sense to me unless you have some serious problems.

When you are driving down the road at ~25 to 35 mph in 5th gear and you accelerate, does the clutch slip? How many miles are on the clutch assembly? If you leaked fluid on the disc because of the leaking seal, chances are you contaminated the friction material on the disc anyway.

You may as well replace the seal and clutch assembly and inspect the rest of parts while you have everything apart.

Sorry. When i push the gas pedal in any gear the rpm will shoot up and then go back down and the car will start to accelerate. The fluid leaking on the disc is what i thought maybe happened. My mechanic told me the seal didnt really need to be done before so if thats the case ill be pretty pissed cause it he told me that it was fine for a while.

Time for a new clutch.

With a clutch replacement, how much would it cost me if I take it to a dealer? people on Mitsubishi repair quoted me $1500. Is this overrated? Local dealers would probably cost me less than $1000. It's just that I trust dealers more.

A new clutch is ~190. The rest is labor...theres a guide to do it yourself on this forum if you or any of your friends/family are somewhat mechanically inclined.

is it normal if the clutch is slipped that the rpm will shoot up everytime i press in the gas pedal, not just when im starting out in a new gear? because i heard that there can be other things wrong that have the same symptoms of a slipping clutch.

Yes, that's normal. Get a new clutch kit and install it. Fix your leaking seal so that no fluid gets on the new clutch disc.
