My wife's GTS had a horrible racket coming from the front of the engine. Since I had a local shadetree mechanic change the timing belt a couple months ago, i figured that's where i'd start. Got everything apart and the timing belt had jumped out of the teeth of the right cam gear.
I turned the crank by hand and the belt went back into the teeth of the cam gear like it should be. I kept turning to line up the timing marks. I got the crank marks lined up but the cam gears were not, so I turned crank another turn. Crank and cam gears are now all lined up with their timing marks.
Question 1: is my timing correct since all marks are lined up, or could it be out of time since the belt did jump out of the cam gear teeth? If it could be out of time what's the best way to get it back in time?
Question 2: Now that belt is seated in all the gears it feels pretty tight, what's the best way to re-tighten it. Remove and reinstall tensioner or what?
