KYB AGX Removal

Alright guys I read the how-to on how to remove the stock shocks/struts and I know it is the same for the KYB AGX's but the only problem is that whenever I try to undo the bolts that hold down the ABS lines and brake lines the stupid ass tabs on the KYB AGX's bend and twist. I am going to end up breaking them right off and I don't want to do that :/ Any suggestions?

Hold the tabs with vice grips or hold the the line with a wrench.

Alright I will have my dad put the vise grips on the metal tab while I try turning that damn bolt. I think it is still going to spin but hell worth a try! Thanks man. They have been an absolute pain.

When you put them back on be sure to coat those bolt threads with antisieze to keep it from happening again!

You can heat the welded nut and bolt threads with a propane torch to make it come out easier.

Thanks Bitter!! I appreciate it. It started bending the first 4-5 times I did it while my dad held it with vise grips. But we figured out the right spot to grab it so it wont bend and got both of them! Thank you. Tomorrow I will remove the other side.

Bitter I have another question if you don't mind. I talked to some people and read some stuff about how to compress the springs in order to remove the shocks/struts from the vehicle. And I was going to buy a thing that you latch on to the springs with on each side and get a socket to crank them down. The only problem is the springs are too far apart and there is no way I can get it on the bottom spring and the next one up.

I hope this makes sense.

DanGTS : who are you?
It doesn't matter which coil of the spring you put the compression tool on. You can get away with just compressing the middle of each spring. It'll still relieve the tension so you can take the top bolt off without any issues.

Alright man thanks! Okay last time I looked at it, it looked like I would not be able to reach two coils of the spring with the compression tool due to them being so far apart. I guess I am just going to have to go out and try it. Once it is compressed do I remove the whole assembly and then slowly loosen the compression tool?

Okay so once I tighten it all the way and the spring is compressed enough then I can take the last bolt out of the bottom of the strut and remove the nuts on top and in the middle of the strut? Then take it off of the vehicle? I am leaving the springs on the shocks/struts and selling them all together.

When I did my shocks, I didn't worry about compressing them on the car. They have the retainer on the top of them to keep them stiff. It's when you remove the retainer to separate the springs from the struts (when they are off the car) that you need to worry about compressing them.

They only need compressing to take the spring off the shock, removing from the car is just the 3 bolts on top of the tower.

Oh really? I thought I had to compress it still :/ Now I feel dumb! Do I need to undo that bolt in the middle or leave that tight?

You mean the big nut in the middle? Just leave it tight. That's what keeps the strut mount locked onto the spring.
