gregquinn : who are you?
what is Scan Tool MB991502?

I've noticed this diagnostic device (Scan Tool MB991502) mentioned several times when I was looking through the manual for an EGR problem. Is it expensive?

thanks
Greg

If its the MUT-II then its several thousands of dollars. I think a used one goes for $2500-3000. But I'm not 100% that the part # you posted is the MUT-II. Just not sure what other scan tool they could be referring to.

:edit:
I just googled it and ya, its the MUT-II scanner.

Most of the time, any scan tool will do. You can get a decent brand new one for less than $100. For certain things you need data-logging capability. That's a different animal.

I'm not sure what he was looking @ in the FSM but the MUT-II is required for most ECU stuff. I think its required for calibrating a few of the engine sensors. Unless he is trying to just read/clear SES codes then a dont think any scanner under $1K would do.
