valve cover breather hose

I just noticed this, the shop that installed my turbo kit did not run the breather hose from the valve cover to the intake, and they cut off where it would connect to the intake? Does it have to connect to that exact spot or can I just buy one of those really small air filters and connect it to the valve cover, heres a pic

like shit lol but thats because I had them use reflash which is horrible with the load problems, they did do a good job but there are a couple tweeks I am going to make myself, one is running the AEM EMS with my sporty tranny.
