i really appreciate all the nice compliments guys!

i went to the track today.. retuned my timing/fuel a little, and stablized boost at 15-15.5psi. ran a 13.143 @ 114.22mph! if you look at my signature, my BUILT sohc (what a pos) had roughly the same trap. im convinced if i can cut better 60 foot times to 1.9 , i can easily hit a 12.6 / 12.7

13.1 on a STOCK MOTOR with 15.5 psi on a gt3582r? That's awesome! You're running a 5 speed tranny, right?

i was getitng locked in first gear unless i moved the car a little (even when the car was off).. and shifting between 1st to 2nd was sluggish.. and the transmission was whining a lot in 1st, 2nd gear

so i took it apart
and found out 2nd gear broke a tooth
the 1-2 shifting sleeve is scored
and the output shaft bearing is owned (prolly from the broken tooth passing through the system)

what scares me was i wasn't even wheel hopping at the track
though all the things that broke were never replaced ever. car has 94,000 km on it roughly, 70k was all boosted. so maybe the wheel hopping back then fatigued the gears already

Does it look like the bearing was messed up for a longer time than the rest of the stuff? If im not mistaken the inner race for the output shaft bearing looks pretty cattywhompus. If the output shaft could have been pushed away from the input shaft under severe load, the gear teeth would not mesh as deep. This would give a longer lever force to tear a tooth off. Also a messed up bearing would allow the shifting sleeve to move up and start rubbing the shift fork. However, it is hard to tell from the pictures which happened first the bearing or the tooth.

chokeX : who are you?
i was trying to show this to you on irc
Video - SEMA 2006 - Crane Cams interview with StreetFire.net on new Mikronite metal finishing process.

if you get some oem parts to just repair it you could look into that surface treatment, it owns the shit out of shot peening. The ring gear on the table in the beginning of the vid was in a 525hp T/A running a 200 shot and made over 40 passes. Never threw any teeth and looks brand new as you can see. They were oem components just treated with this micro crap

nice chokex, that's good to know

i found out my transmission is pretty much junk. the output shaft is scored / warped a little where the bearing is supposed to go.

so im just gonna pick up a transmission i know a junkyard has with 5000 miles on it and swap the quaife in there and put it back for now.

i took the transmission gear set to a professional, and he said the output shaft bearing had seized, and this in turn scored my output shaft which is why 2nd gear blew up because it wasn't meshing right.

dammit, i should have changed the output shaft bearing when i did the input shaft bearing!! my fault

oh well, the 1k mile tranny will be here tommorrow. should be able throw the quaife in there and do some more tests i definately want to make videos

Nice work dude. Good vid too. Post some more vids at the track and with a better video camera. You are one of the only people in this forum that actually post vids, dyno sheets, and time slips from their set up. +Erep. Keep it up.

so i went back to the dragstrip again to see if i could do better after doing some tuning. the night started with me running 13.1 @ 110-113mph. so i did some fine tuning and raised the boost to 16 psi. i started doing consistent 13.0's @ 114mph. finally i got the launch down and broke into the 12s with my first time being 12.979 @ 114mph. then a 12.93, then the final run i did was with a bit more boost at 17-18psi consistently!

i ran a 12.847 @ 116.55mph. i am in love with the stock SOHC!!!!

here's the time slip

videos coming soon. friend has to render it! this time we used a hd camera

maybe
but considering the car weighs 2900lb with me in it , and it traps 116~ mph

that means it should be making 360whp right now

All I have to say is wow. I didn't know the stock motor could take that kind of abuse. That really gives props to your tuning ability. BTW, I'm curious as to what is your overall impression of the car? The numbers only tell one part of the story.

The large turbo helps keep intake temps cool and I know Zee is rigorous in his tuning. But I'm with you, those are incredible ETs on a stock 2.4.

Hey Zee, remember the old "these engines won't make more 300whp" that used to be thrown around like the gospel? So much for that BS.

the car feels great, i havent had any problems with this setup except the transmission. it does use a lot more gas, but i guess thats the price to pay for more power! after doing all the suspension work on this car, the car handles like a charm through the corners, its just an overall fun car to drive on the street

i just wish i never wasted money on a built sohc. those of you who are trying to build a sohc, dont waste your time. it's only worth it if you go with a dohc head. this sohc stops making any decent power after about 18 psi like people say, i dont know what it is -- its probably the port sizes in the head

all you need is a good turbo setup, t3/t4 50 trim / gt3071r / gt3076r / gt3582r , aem ems -- converted to run MAP, and all the appropriate supporting mods such as fuelling and cooling for the engine and you're well on your way to where i am

yea, that 300whp assumption is silly

same with the "cant run more than 10psi safely"
