Places/People around Texas for your car

Admin please sticky this.

I'm putting together a helpful guide to everyone in Austin and its surrounding areas. I will be updating this with new information as I come asross it.

Alloy Rim Repar: Allen Braxdale (sp) 560-1763
He does work for Many high end car lots in the area. I've seen his work and I have no problem recommending him to work on anyones car. He carges 75 per wheel and can fix the rim on your car. This is for people that just have some minor rim damage and need a quick turn around time. Give him a call and he will let you know where he will be at for the next couple of days so you can meet and drop off your car. He will need it all day.

Exhaust/Muffler welding and piping: Muffin Muffler 453-5287
These guys do all the exhaust work for my shop. They are good and work cheap. They don't look like much but don't let that fool you. They would be great for muffler welding or cat replacement.

Used parts: A1 Imports 243-2718 ask for Brandon
Brandon is the guy I use whenever I call. I like him because he is always helpful to me, not that the others are not. This place is has more wrecked third gen. eclipses than any other place in town (thats not saying much). Just give him a call if you know what you need, he won't list all the parts availible.

High end car audio systems: Dyer Electronic Dino DeYoung 458-9698
This place is not somewhere that will install your $200 headunit or Q Lodgic sub box. This place does custom installs on Ferraris and Porches all day long. They build some of the best stereo's that I've seen. They carry a nice price for that quality work. Don't think that your taking your weekly paycheck to them and getting your ride hooked up.

Custom Exhaust: Ultimate Exhaust in Taylor 365-3278
These peolpe do great custom exhaust work. They did my custom dual exhaust and I'm very happy with it. They came highly recommended to me from my domestic friends and I would gladdly recommend them to any of my fellow import friends.

Me: Ryan Arnold 573-9517 or just PM me
I am a mechanic by trade. I've done just about every stock replacement that you can name. I'm still learning about some of the aftermarket things. If you need anything done; i.e. plugs/wires, T-belts, clutch, brakes, custom lighting, whatever, shoot me a message and I'll let you know how much and if I can do it or not. If not, I will find someone that I trust to send you to. I've done alot of work for quite a few Austin club members. If your not sure about someone you don't know, just post up and one of them will respond.

I'll post more when it comes to me.

Oh and Ryan, I know you titled this to be for Austin but I think that all the members in TX can benefit from a good automotive service/parts provider list so I'm gonna ask that the title be changed to "Places/People around Texas for your Car."

Austin Body Work:

Southern Custom Creations.
Owner's name is Jeremy, and he's freakin good.... and fast. You can tell from the equipment he uses there that he is a professional. It is a small shop that's not very visible, but it's not a hole in the wall either. He has a true paint booth there, and only uses high quality materials. Only guy I trust to do my body work. Oh, did I mention that his prices are also very nice? 512-799-7939. Tell him Steve recommended him and I'm sure he'll hook you up even better.

Speed Elements in SA.
Owners name is Tommy.

Really good guy, knows his stuff and his prices are also really good. Probably the best place in SA.

The other shop people always recommend me to is Maximum Velocity, but I have not been to them my self.
Edit* Been there the guy is nice, but takes FOREVER to get even the smallest things done.

If any one needs any VIS products a buddy of mine can order direct. He can order other stuff too, that's just one I know he gets direct.
Luxury Image is the name of his company (new)
Owner Steve 210-789-0642. Tell'em Adrian from Cost Plus sent you.

Sorry to post a question instead of suggestions, but I must ask if anyone knows a shop that absolutely knows their SHIT both about 3G Eclipses and good FI tuning/design. I'm absolutely sick and tired of these all-Honda-and-nothing-but-Honda shops I always get referred to (sorry K-Bob ) that can't do shit for anything but Hondas!

Primarily, I'm needing some re-fab done, plus someone who can properly tune my eManage, fuel, and possibly fix whatever is wrong with my system, coz I really am not an engine guy. At this point in time I just can't figure out if I'm getting my chain yanked or if these people who're working on my car are just plain incompetent!

Thanks in anticipation...

Well, if you want to take your car to the Dallas are, Jotech or Wasabi Racing can handle all your woes. They both have dynos and work on a variety of cars. Jotech installed and tuned StoicGT's Xtech turbocharged GT before he traded that car in on an Evo. Wasabi includes people from CTC Motorsports (they merged), the latter having tuned the One Lap America Supra from 2 years ago.

Thanks a mil, K I'd assume their prices are also rated as being "pro(fessional)-rated"? Impressive websites, and I definitely will give them a call.

Any comments about Forced Performance's custom work?

if you need interior/body work done, you can let the shop that did my car do the work. since he's already torn my car apart a few times, he won't have much trouble doing your car.

I dunno about Kenny Tran's shop, but Wasabi Racing (and CTC before the merge) has very reasonable prices. Not cheap prices, of course, but on the low-end of what you'd expect to pay for the type of work they do. And the quality of workmanship is above and beyond what you'll pay.

Ok... I'm posting this just for quick reference for people looking to have the same work done as I. I spoke with Tony @ Jotech, and asked about some roundabout prices. Take note that each application will be different.

For Hondas, they *typically fab IC piping (compressor-IC + IC-T/B for about $700, with a coat job inclusive of about $100. This does not include the IC and endtanks itself. Dynotuning is around $125/hr. I forget the exact number. Typical jobs require about 2 hours on the dyno, but some applications are quicker than others of course.

Any more input or data on this matter would be great. Finally, Kabob... do you know what StoicGT's last name is? It'll help a lot to pull his invoice up. I believe his first name was Jason.

No. All you have here in Houston are idiots as well. And IMO... I'd be careful about getting an SDS if you don't have any qualified installers/tuners.

G-force : who are you?
Hey whats up Texans a few things here:
1) Got to give props to the afore mention Speed Elements, they have decent pricing and great turn around service, not to mention they know thier shit.
2) I would never got to USA Motorsports if my car's life depended on it, they messed up my car twice, once with clutch work and second time with body work. Fuck them!!
3) I read someone say something about Maximum Velocity, umm HELL NO!! I bought an intake ( a brand I never heard of but they swore by it) and by the time I got to the end of that block the cone (filter)fell off and the car behind me ran over it. Went back to tell them and they replaced it for free, GREAT!! Then it fell off again but this time in the highway!!! Wanted to charge me for 3rd one and insisted its my duty to silicone it so it would stick better, the clamp wasn't enough. I didn't overpay $200 to do it myself, plus they were snotty assholes about it!!!
With that said go at your own risk to 2 and 3 but Speed Elemnts gets my return business!! ( All these are in San Antonio!!)

Really good guy, knows his stuff and his prices are also really good. Probably the best place in SA.
I can vouch for this shop.
They do some great work and Tommy is a great guy.
He told me about my cars that if he cant find it anywhere hed make it for me.
I have yet to take him up on this offer.
But I will soon!

For Houston Id look up asaa racing in the west side.
This is a great shop and Hun knows his stuff!

For the ones who live in San Antonio

Is there any special mechanic or place besides the dealership that you trust to take your car to? If so, would you mind sharing?

My cousin is a mechanic, thus I basically get free service and such (minus parts). As for a reputable mechanic, the dealer or Scorpion...just go around and ask.

Hey what's up guys...quick question. I know its 2 quarts of oil for the rear diff when replacing fluid but thats conventional oil. Since I'm putting synthetic, it may require more. I couldnt find any info on this so I would like to know what the amount of quarts with synthetic would be for the rear diff. Thanks in advance.

Only people I trust in Houston to do anything on my car is CARBOYS.. (not CARTOYS) they are at the Beltway8 and Bissonnet. They've done almost everything on my car that Ross, Lawrence, Myself and a few others couldn't.

Hey guys... has anyone dealt with either one of these two fellows - one's moved to Cali and the other's still in Dallas:
  • Mike Dang - used to work for Jotech with Kenny, now with Speedomotive
  • Tony Pulo (sp?) - also known in the tuning inside circles as "T1"

Do let me know if anyone's got raves or dirt. Thanks

I say the best place with good prices would be online. I purchased a triple gauge pod pillar and 3 gauges for pretty cheap from glowshift: Performance Gauges & Gauge Pods GlowShift Gauges - Boost Wideband Air Fuel Gauges I really like them
