If I really really decide to go, I might actually just fly out again. The thought of driving that far time-wise and money-wise (I can't believe this but premium gas is so expensive it's cheaper to buy a plane ticket) isn't all that attractive. I would reconsider the driving thing, though, if somebody wanted to ride along or if I could ride along, thus splitting driving duties and gas money.

Shihab, what would be the incentive of driving to the venue? Isn't that specific mountain-side road an actual public road with an imposed (low) speed limit anyway?

In any case, if ever I decide to go (funds, or lack thereof, is the factor, moreso as I won't have PTO ), I'll likely fly out as well. My objective is to meet other veteran C3G folks. I quite dislike driving anymore.

The driving part of it wasn't a big deal for me if it's just the Dragon that you're talking about. But there's plenty of back roads and switchbacks around the area that are fun as hell and not monitored that we got to drive on, as well.

Honestly, the biggest limiting factor I had last year since I didn't drive was that I was always tagging along with someone in their car, limiting my choices in what activities I could participate in as well as inconveniencing others (in my mind). I wanted to do so much more than I wound up doing because I was with one group and couldn't break away to do stuff with someone else. Also, I felt really bad when I did hang out with different people because they had to come get me or ferry me around (especially Liz and Vlad and Kev and Tara; bless 'em they're so awesome for doing it!). And the drive to and from the airport was a bit of a hassle for them, too. I know they didn't mind doing it but I'm definitely one of those people that loves doing for others but hates being a burden in any way, shape or form.

Now none of this matters if you're coming along just to turn off your brain, hang out and go with the group and content with letting everyone else decide what to do and see. In that case, flying is definitely cheaper and less stressful.
