Need help ASAP!
Well I have the front of my car lowered and when I moved to the back to take the struts off, the bottom bolt came off but the strut wouldn't budge at all. I read everything and tried the hammer and chiesel, deep creep, and today I took it to a shop and they couldn't get it. The guy said it was rusted on and I might have to cut it. I haven't tried to torch it yet however. If i cut it then could i just get another bolt the same size and have a shop put the bolt on then go back and change out the struts?
heres a pic of the dragracer ![]() ![]()

I'd get a torch on there first and see what you can do. When working with rusty bolts heat is your best friend.

Hairdryer more than likely isn't going to get hot enough, unless it's like a super dryer.
![]() Do you have a pic of the bolt that is stuck?

I know people have problems getting the strut to slide off and they end up cutting the ring part of the strut. I was lucky and mine slid right off.

Ok, so the bolt I have in my hand comes off but the strut and bushing will not come off the little bar on the inside since it's rusted and what not. I tried the hairdryer and PB blaster and everything today. Tomorrow I am taking it to a guy that can torch it.

Can you get a pry bar and wedge it in there and pry it off? I think that's what I used on a friends cavalier. It was a while ago though, so I don't remember exactly.

You sure? If you got a long pry bar inbetween the shock bottom and the metal rod it touches you could be able to get enough force to pry it off there.

The first pics you posted remind me of this white integra around town that rolls around with the front damn near scraping and its rear way up
Hopefully I don't run into the same problem as you when I go to install my new setup when it gets a little warmer around here. I can already see the car is going to look great with those wheels and the drop.

^ Yep. Or the torch. Or cutting it with a Dremel. Basically it's brute force that does it, whichever path you go.
This is really common. I'd consider closing the thread since it's one of those things that *has* been asked a ton of times. But it's somewhat entertaining so it'll stay open... |

hey now, those hairdryers can get pretty hot.
![]() possibly a heat gun could cook the bushing out of there...but you'll still need to get the crap off the stud that the strut goes onto.

We used an angle grinder to cut off the bottom part of the ring and even then, part of the rubber bushing was still seized to the shaft. We then used a dremel with some high grit sandpaper to remove the bushing remains. After that, we put ANTI-SEIZE onto shaft before installing the new shocks.

Yup, I had the same issue way back when Sam and I were swapping suspensions. Tried everything under the sun in our power to no avail. Took it to a shop, put it on a lift, and tried a pry bar with a 7 foot pipe with no luck. The only thing left was to torch the bushing, and then you could work on the inner "sleeve" with various tools. I think we put a pair of vice grips on there and were able to break it free.
And I did drive back with the bushing torched. Just took it slow and careful since the rear shock was in pieces at that point. Figured it would be fine for a one way trip and replacing the shock as soon as I got back to Sam's place. |

yeah, that is an old muscle car term, for when you jack the rear in the air for big meats back there... like a stinkbug.
