tire size for the evo viii wheels
got myself a set of evo viii wheels (17x8, +38? offset) , and my car is lowered about 1.5-2 inches (i have eclipse GTS)
I tried an front Evo wheel with front wheel on eclipse stock size 215/50/17 tire and it rubbed the well i'm thinking that 235/45/17 (stock Evo size) would do the trick but I'm also thinking that 235/40/17 might be better just to have more clearance Last edited by logomano; 05/06/2012 at 08:37 PM. |

Most 235/45's don't protect the rim of the wheel.

i guess i could always remove the fender liner
225/50 has a huge ratio - 112.5 vs 235/40 = 94 vs 245/40 = 98 vs the stock 215/50 = 107.5 Last edited by logomano; 05/06/2012 at 08:22 PM. |

why spend money on smaller tires when you can take 5 mins to hammer in that black piece. But if your dead set on smaller tires it should help a lil bit. Your probably still going to rub some

i'm also lowered 2 inches and have 2 sets of evo wheels, one for winter and one for summer. there are only 2 sizes i will run on evo wheels because i just don't feel that the others are right, they are either too tall or too short. 235/45/17 is a very appropriate size for that wheel and will have more of a factory look and fit in the wheel well nicely, i run this size with snow tires (snow tires have a taller tread than regular tires of the same size) and they rub the box up front when backing up at full lock, but that box can very easily be modified so don't let that be your deciding factor. if handling is a big thing for you then a 255/40/17 would be a good choice, this is what i run on my summer wheels, they look amazing, gives the car a very nice stance and gives your wheels that nice bulky "i don't fuck around" look and corner amazingly with the right tire choice, but they barely stick out of the wheel wells just enough to fling dirt and all kinds of shit down the side of your car so if you are obsessed with keeping your car clean then these will make it harder on you, they also rub the front box at full lock while backing up but like i said above, thats really not a big deal. for tires, the ones i like best are dunlop dirrezza z1 starspecs for the summer and yokohama iceguards for the winter. if you just have t have all seasons(which i don't recommend) then go with a goodyear eagle response edge

OP, I'm seriously trying to understand you. Your worried about rubbing and are spazzing out about tire size. However you have been told at least 5 times that all you need to do is knock that black box in then you can run whatever size you want up to a 255 with no rubbing. Seriously stop looking at ratios and just modify the fender box.

good point. i forgot that suspension played into the 255's. i'm on kyb agx set to 4 in rear and 3 on front and tein s-tech springs with no spacers, i don't rub at all but if you had a lower or softer suspension then you would probably need to do some fender rolling, i clear the rear spindles by 3mm so it's pretty damn close, i doubt all tires would clear due to differences in tread design etc.

seriously dude, you really don't need to give a shit about the rubbing, the fronts will only rub on that little black box if you back up at full lock, and if i remember right it's only when you turn one way. hell, i've had mine on for a year and never even messed with the black box. if you are really concerned with it then go make them rub on purpose, take your wheels off, look at the marks where they rub, take off inner fender dent metal behind the plastic, put inner fender back on, get a heat gun, heat up the plastic until in is plyable then push it into the dent you made. = no more rubbing. if you run other sizes it will probably look stupid. also if you run 255's and the rear happen to rub then put some 3mm spacers on it, they are like 20 bucks.

so i ended up rePowdercoating the wheels (look great) and putting 245/40 hankook ventus evo 12s on them
and so far good i suspect at full lock they may rub and who knows the rears if j go over a bump but id have to say that the ride quality actually improved, something i did not suspect when going to a lower profile |
