I bought this car in may 2007 and up until this month i have been slowly working on it. Nothing special :
-Cold air intake
-Megan race headers
-Diamante manifold and throttle body
-Greddy SP2 cat-back
-NGK 8mm plug wires
-Stock calipers painted blue
-EBC rotors and yellow stuff pads all around
-KYb AGX struts up front
-Relocated stock battery to the trunk
-Ingalls torque dampener
-Lambo door kit
-Plasmaglow multi-color led underglow kit
-Misc. engine dress up (blue hoses and harness)
Pics:

Then i decided to go all out and try to cram a 3.8 6g75 from an 07 eclipse into it. So far the only person in the world to attempt this on a stock computer. I drove about 2 1/2 hours to pick this thing up from the scrapyard.

Its from a 2007 eclipse with almost 1000 miles on it. Nice lookin engine if you saw what was left of the car it came out of.

Tear down:

Out With the old

And in with the new:

The finished project:

Here are some of the parts that had to be modified for the swap:
First and most obvious the ignition issue was solved by using the distributor from the 6g72 with spacer in place of the stock 6g75 cam position sensor. The mounting location:

Mocked up, as you can see there is a need for another 1/2 inch of metal in there.

The plate that was made to fill the space.

The location of the distributor is now in the way of the waterneck. It had to be modified to fit:

Also the 75 has no sender for the coolant temp gauge so the one from the 72 needs to be added.

Next up is the crank position sensor. This is a direct swap from the 72. Swap over the sprocket and the sensor itself.
from the 75

from the 72

The stock 75 fuel rail does not have a return as on those cars it is built into the tank. So one needs to be added.

I chose to cut mine up and make it with the return on the other end of the rail for equal pressure across all the injectors. Not necessary i just did it for future FI plans.

The throttle body needs to be swapped also as the 75 uses drive by wire so its all electronic. I used the diamante one i had from a previous project. There is no place to mount the throttle cable on the 75 intake manifold so i made one using the egr solenoid mounting bolts. You may notice the orientation of the TB 90 degrees from where it normally is. This was for clearance issues.

The EGR solinoid on the 75 is also electronic so you must use the one from the 72 it is a direct fit.

More pics and info as i get time to post it up.

Awesome job man!

Turbo is on the agenda for next year. Im not made of money. And i will show the dyno results when i put the car on one.

Its on my list of meets to go to next year if it is held. Now that the car is actually worth showing people.

haha no i am using the stock 3g computer for the engine, that is why the swap is so different from everyone elses. And the haltech is on the list when i go to a standalone system.

I bought a new toy today.

Looks like i might be going the s/c rout instead of turbo.

WOW! I haven't seen one of those in a while. Nice!

Not yet, and the clutch went out last week so im not even driving it right now. I should have it done by the end of the year.

I would imagine this would be possible with an auto but I doubt the auto will be able to tolerate the power the 75 puts out. This is NOT an easy swap if you want easy go with the 74. many parts will need modification as stated in the first post. :dunno: on the 60 ft times haven't been to the track yet but im sure they suck. On the stock clutch i get no traction in 1st and 2nd gear even third is shit now if i'm not careful. The stage 3 is going in this week so maybe track by the end of the month.

good luck if you decide to try the 75 swap its well worth the time and cost.

No one really knows the limits yet since they haven't really been pushed. I know the crank is rock solid but the pistons are crappy like the ones in the 72. And the rods are a bit thinner. The 75 mivec heads have much better flow characteristic than the 72/74. With minor work they have been proven to outflow corvette heads. Only downside to them is there is not really any aftermarket cams for them yet so that would be a custom job.

The problem right now is that the computers that run these engines in the 4g cant be flashed so there is really no telling what they are capable of in a setup like mine or greg's. Only time will tell on that one.

As far as wiring goes, does the stock 6g72 wiring harness work for the most part, fuel injector clips, alternator..... To start out i want to push 10-15 psi, definetly will need custom pistons (no one makes pistons yet right?) Do you think the rods will handle realistically 500hp, also what about injectors are there bigger replacments? You said With minor work they have been proven to outflow corvette heads. Who has done that and what needs done? I am trying to figure out what $5,000 will go farther with, building bottom and top end of 6g72 (having hard time finding parts), Or doing swap with custom pistons and possible rods, leaving the heads alone for now. Input please!!!

I cant devolve all my secrets. But i will tell you when you get the engine make sure you get the accessories with it (ie..harness, alternator, manifolds, anything attached to the engine.). By comparing things between the two side by side you will be able to figure what to swap. And whatever is left you can sell. Thats what i did.

Brian crower should be able to get pistons for you. Not sure on the rods, like i said no one has really tested the limits yet. Injectors are the same resistance as the 72/74. some searching will give you answers on the larger replacements.
