Louder tick from sitting on a hill?

So today while at work (I deliver pizza) I got out on a driveway and my lifter tick got so damn loud the dude thought I had a rod knock. I am 100% sure it is lifter tick, and I know mitsu motors suffer from this. Later, after the car had been sitting, it was loud again even though it was sitting pretty flat. After it warmed back up, or rather got the oil flowing completely, it quieted down greatly. Is this okay? I know fixing lifter tick on my 3rd gen is a wasted attempt ( I've read a few threads), but is it normal that a hill would cause such increase in volume? It does quiet down greatly once it's been running for 5-10 minutes, and it's only audible when sitting still. I cannot hear it over the motor when I'm driving.

So it turned out I was low on oil. I did an oil change before taking a 7-8 hour trip. Is it normal to lose some oil on a long highish speed trip?

Yes, check your oil like you're a Chicagoan voting. Early and often.

Alright. I didn't think it would burn up oil from a long drive. It's honestly the first long car trip I've ever gone on. She's been good all day and quieted her lifter chatter greatly. I'm gonna just start checking the oil weekly.

So I after 4iah days it looks to be down a 1/4 quart. No idea where it's leaking from. The rear valve cover gasket was changed by me, and is still clean and spotless. Going to get up under and clean it all off and drive on it for a few days.

Yes, that's a good idea. You can spray foot powder or similar spray powders onto the cleaned engine to help trace oil leaks back to their source, the powder helps keep the oil from spreading as much so it's easier to track back. Cam/crank seals, oil pan gasket, oil pressure sending units are all leak suspects, but 1/4 qt is a small unit to measure, something like the car not sitting level or the oil having not all ran back can show 1/4 qt low. Repeat that measure a few times to make sure it's true, but cleaning things up sure won't hurt anyway.

So I got under it and couldn't find it. Brought it to a mechanic I was recommended. He said it's an issue with age. Before doing any serious spending, change the oil to 10-40. Basically the car is weeping. I been running deliveries in my girl, so I drive probably 500 miles a week on a crazy week. So she's due for another 3k change anyway. I'm beating her a bit to make sure she's clean and then I was suggested high mileage 10-40. Watch her for a while and see how it goes. If the seeping chills out then roll with it for a while. But it's looking like she's gonna need all sorts of new gaskets and seals soon.
