So i have been reading these forums about swapping to a 3.8l mivec or non mivec engine and i have not come across any info on wiring harnesses. i am new to the engine swapping area and i have been told by another galant enthusiast that my 03 galant es wiring harness should only fit with an 07 ralliart engine but i am not too sure about this and was looking for some advice. if i swap the engine will i need a new wiring harness no matter what year car i get the 3.8 from?

whether or not you will need a new harness depends on the differences in the two vehicles engine bay layout. It probably would be helpful to get the new engine WITH the harness intact, if possible. That way you can possibly utilize/combine both harnesses to fabricate a custom one that looks neat and organized.

would the 3.8 fit directly to my 4spd trans or would i need to get a trans to match the 3.8
or could i possibly switch in a manual trans?

I personally have not done an engine swap on a 3G...what I learned is what I've read on this site, and what is possible or not. Your best case scenario would be to find a low mileage donor car and swap the engine, trans, ECU, immobilizer, ignition w/keys and harness from one to the other. If I'm not mistaken, you will need custom exhaust headers due to different firewall clearance between the 3G and 4G donor car. Switching to manual trans is possible, but obviously makes things more complicated. A few members have successfully done it, both with and without changing the instrument cluster. If it were me, I would prefer the 6sp manual, which is hard to find and only offered on one or two model years of the 4G. Even a 5sp 4G is hard to find nowadays, and manual trannys are becoming a thing of the past. So an AT might be your best bet and less work ultimately.
Be aware that trannys from a 2.4 do not fit the 3.5 6G74 or 3.8 6G75
Before even considering an engine swap, check your 3G for rust, especially the strut towers, as it is fairly common on the 3Gs for the engines to outlast the frame/chassis. I personally would want to get at least 5 more years out of a car with a lower mileage swapped engine.
Good luck with your project!!!

i have the 3.0 so i would just be able to just use my current transmission i have correct? if i dont end up doing the manual swap of course. also would the manual transmission fit up to the 3.8 without any special modifications? and how much power could the 5 or 6 speed manuals hold stock?
you have the 3. Slow so the wiring harness would be used as is now.
the 3.8 bolts right to the 3.0 Trans, so the 3 mounts on the trans will stay the same
the Engine(Pass) side will be the 3.0 Bolted to the 3.8
you dont need the 3.8 wiring harness/ecu..
if you go Mivec you will need a RPM Switch

Whats a RPM SWITCH? What it is using for?
Whats a RPM SWITCH? What it is using for?
basically tells the engine when to "enable" the mivec at a certain rpm
