Hello, I’m new to the forum. And I’m new to owning an eclipse.
got this 187k miles2003 eclipse this week and I’ve found a problem, when I start the carand try to put it in reverse a fuse blows, I can’t remember which one but it’s a 15amp. I’ve checks the tail lights for water and exposed wires but nothing, I do get a trans range sender code but I’m not sure what to do, some help would be appreciated. Thanks!

UPDATE: The fuse is number 18 for the reverse lights
Would you please doublecheck which fuse is blowing? For the 2003-2005, the backup lights should be on fuse 22, a 7.5amp fuse in the dash fuse panel.

Fuse 18 under the hood is a 10amp fuse for headlights, and fuse 18 in the dash is a 20amp fuse for the front ECU and windshield wipers.

Not trying to be nitpicky; I just want to make sure I'm looking at the correct circuit diagram.

Also, what's the exact code number for the range sensor? P0705? If so, I'd make sure the switch's electrical connector is plugged in and doesn't look damaged. Try gently wiggling and squeezing the wires with the ignition on, and see if you can make the fuse blow my manipulating the wires. If you can't find anything with the wires, I'd start by replacing the range sensor switch.

Hey Jelezar, are the fuse diagrams the same for 4cyl vs 6cyl, or mt vs at, just out of curiosity? I thought there might be some differences, as you reminded me about the starter relay, though there is a spot for that relay in all fuse boxes.

Thanks for the reply jelazar, just went and checked, I’m still seeing number 18 for the reverse lights. I’ll try to get to the switch today. Is it on the trans? And yes the code is p0705. Thanks for the help man

Oh and the fuse I’m blowing is the one next to the steering wheel inside the car
