:mecry2: i just bled the cooling system but i really dont think it helped.

i was driving home and at a stop light i noticed the temp gauge slowly started going up. it went from normal to about 3/4 then normal then 3/4 again and it went back to normal when i started driving. ive noticed my coolant is also brown but i havent flushed the radiator or anything either. i'm afraid its my head gasket, any opinions before i take it into the shop?

Check that the expansion hose isn't plugged up, since you said the coolant is brown. Also the fans should be coming on, are they?

also check your overflow bottle, if it looks like peanut butter odds are pretty good you have blown the head gasket

Take the cap off of the radiator and start the car, if it starts bubbling inside then there's your sign

THat's a good way to get a coolant shower.

Try this; start the car with the engine cold and the cap on, THEN immediately take off the rad cap and watch for the bubbles.

The little one that goes from the reservoir to radiator. Remove one side and blow into it. If you can't, clear the blockage obviously.
