I had my front struts replaced then control arms and bushings replaced. Took it for a lifetime alignment at Firestone. They said I need a cam adjustment kit for the front drivers side to fully aline the camber adjustment on that wheel. Is this true for a 2003 gts?

Yes...it is possible that you may need a camber kit when changing struts... You can get them at Rockauto... I have opened the page for you .

Thanks for the link. It is a 2003 but on the same page. Firestone wanted to charge 129.99 for the kit and 99.00 to install. I only replaced the struts because big o tire said it needed it. They were 400.00 at o'Reilly parts and 200.00 labor. 600.00 total I thought I needed to replace them to get rid of a noise. Turned out it was the engine mounts and transmission mount. Noise is gone! But, why did I need new struts it just bounces around more. I wouldn't have replaced then if I knew they weren't the cause of the noise. Now I need a camber kit, geez

That tee's me off big time. You go into a big name store and they sell you parts you don't really need. This is more the case when it is a woman because they think you don't have a clue. All my friends were telling me to go to a certain place because of my high idle... They replaced the MAF because they said it was the problem..no change. Then they changed the TPS...no change...then they changed the MAP...no change... With labor, I got a grand into this and still have a fast idle... I live in a small city and no one here works on Mitsubishi's ... When the season begins I'm taking my Spyder to a Mitsubishi dealer in London Ontario...60 miles away... Even the Chrysler dealer doesn't want to touch it...The guy at their desk did not even know Chrysler sold the Mitsubishi?

Luckily I got carshield and they helped me a lot with suspension parts. I've been paying 89.99 each month and they paid for an 02 sensor that caused the car to stall. Controlling arms, bushings, cv boot was ripped, valve cover gaskets to stop the oil leak, engine and transmission mounts and all the labor. I only paid the shop 100.00 deductible each time for claim 3x. And they paid for a rental car for a week, since they sent a wrong part to the shop and I had to wait until they got the right one. They don't cover struts or alignment or maintenance. Still saved me thousands. They will cover alternator and starter. Those will go eventually. I still don't have the answer why I needed struts
I was just trying to get rid of that creaking noise and it was the mounts all along!

if you are looking for someone here to tell you if you really needed new struts, we would need more info, like mileage, handling, symptoms, etc. If it makes you feel any better, it is often a good idea to replace parts BEFORE they totally fail, and struts definitely fall into that category. Did the shop give you back the old struts so you can bring them somewhere else to be bench tested, or to be sold as used? Sometimes just asking for the old parts will deter a shop from suggesting un-needed repairs.

Big o tire said this but I bought the struts at o'Reilly and had them installed elsewhere. They usually show me the old parts but I didn't ask then. I thought it was making the noise but it was the mounts and they showed me those. They were bad

If you can take off the rim and remove the top strut bolt then the alignment guy can ajust the camber and it will only cost you $18.00 plus a half hour off labor. Pay yourself to install these bolts instead of a shp because it is not that hard. It takes long to take off the rim then it does to remove the bolt and Autozone has loaner tool system which is free. Never just some one else to work on your vehicle and always check all repairs.

Unfortunately when customers buy their own parts and pay a shop to install said parts the car owner is assuming responsibility for the diagnosis. The car owner is not paying for auto repairs when they bring their own parts, they are simply replacing the parts that the customer requested to be replaced. If the shop installed those parts correctly the shop has done their due diligence. Now if a customer brings their car to me and wants a noise repaired I will diagnose the problem, call with an estimate for approval, then complete the job. If the noise is still there after you paid me to repair your car you do not get charged for what I sold you, it is my mistake, I need to learn my job better! Same with a high idle problem, if you are bringing me parts to install I am not fixing your car, I am only replacing what you asked me to replace. If you tell me that your car is idling too fast and have me diagnose and repair that problem it will be repaired when it leaves my shop without me guessing at what to replace and seeing if that works while you pay for all of my guesswork.
