If it has a chip in it, you will have to get the key from the dealership. That immobilizer chip cannot be duplicated at your Average Joe's Locksmith.

You would probably know if a car key has a chip by verifying it came with an immobilizer as a security feature.

you can make a copy of the key that can unlock the doors. Or you could have flash remove your immobilizer and use copies keys. I would highly reccomend keeping your immobilizer

Go to the dealership and just have them do it. They kinda rape you on the price, but its nice to have keys that work.

If you have two working keys, you can program new keys yourself. Buy a new transponder key. (dealership or ebay) Have it cut at your local locksmith. Then you can program it to your car using the method in the FSM.

Registration of additional keys without using the scan tool
Operate two registered ignition keys by the following proce-
dure, call additional registration mode for the immobilizer-ECU,
then register an additional ignition key by operating it. Addi-
tional ignition keys can be registered without using the MUT-II
by operating two ignition keys that already have been regis-
tered to the vehicle and operating an additional key to be regis-
tered. (A maximum of eight ignition keys can be registered.)
1. The ignition switch is "ON" by using he first key (KEY A)
which has already been registered to the vehicle.
2. If the first key (KEY A) is correct, the immobilizer-ECU
begins the condition ow warning the second key (KEY B)
which has already been registered to the vehicle. The
ignition switch has been on the "ON" position for longer than
5 seconds so that enters the condition of waiting the second
key (KEY B).
3. After the ignition switch is "LOCK" (OFF), it is "ON" by the
second key (EY B) which has already been registered to the
vehicle.
The second key (KEY B) must be turned on within 7
seconds of removing the first key.
4. If the second key (KEY B) is correct, the immobilizer-ECU
enters the addition entry mode.
And the "SECURITY" indicator light blinks approx. twice a
second.
5. After the "SECURITY" indicator light blinks, the ignition
switch is "OFF" (LOCK). And it is "ON" by using the new
transponder key. The time which the key can be registered
is limited than 30 seconds after the indicator blinks.
6. The time which the key can be registered is limited less than
30 seconds after the "SECURITY" indicator blinks.

all 3g's are
:agreed:

And as RC spelled out, if you have two keys you can reprogram it yourself. My car only came with one key, so I just had the immobilizer deleted...but I'm installing an aftermarket alarm w/remote start, so I'd have to put in a transponder bypass circuit as well, which I really didn't want to do...

How do you know if your car is equipped with an immobilizer?
i am sorry, but :uh: these questions are not making any sense, especially if they are coming from someone that "owns" a 3G.

Serisously...you need to learn how to use that Search button...spend a few minutes just playing around with it looking up random stuff. Most questions you have can be answered by doing a simple search...both of the questions you asked have been answered before...

Thread revival! :) I need to program a new key because I lost one of mine. I bought two transponder key's off e-gay for faily cheap. Will the valet key work as the second key or must it be two master keys?? I really want to avoid being raped by the dealership. Thanks!

ok great. I wasn't sure if there was some difference chip wise between the keys as i've never used my valet key before. Right now my Remote start/alarm has the velet key hidden away in its black box to enable the remote start to function. Now I just need to find where the remote start box with the key is.
