Costags88's turbo thread

Well i think its about time to start my thread on my build. I was debating not even making up a thread but i figured since i have learned so much form others such as couldinc00, steadly, ithinkyou, ace and napalm's thread (i thank you guys) i think ill do a write up of my own fpr tphers with common interests.

My car is a 2000 GS 2.4l w/ a manual tansmission. The over all goal of the project is to put together a turbo system that is fully functional for everyday driving and can deliver enough punch to keep ya satisfied with a fun performance aspect.

There will a 10 psi max i will be running. Im going to be doing a blow through set up with the 3' GM maf and the MAF-T basic. Because the car is a 2000 i have to do the 01+ ECU swap. I have all the parts i need except for my gauges and the the MAF-T. I have decided against installing the Walbro 255 for now, because i think the stck fuel pump will be sufficient enough for this application and if i starve it for fuel it will absolutly go in.

So far i have the basics installed. I have the intercooler, FPR, vacuum manifold, and motor mounts in (except for rear mount which is a pain in the ass) I have body work that needs to get done also in the front i got into a small accident:rant2:

Just so you regulars know this isnt a wasted thread started by the newb who dreams of a project like this. I will get picutes up as soon as i can of what i have done so far along with the damage.

Pictures of the damage and that shitty norther rust

The start my wiring mess

The egay turbo and headers...i know i know...when they go or i get any signs of shit from them they are out the door without hesitation.

Intercooler piping and BOV

Front motor mount

And i thought i throw in a few pics of my sound system (no where near as nice and HIJACKER's but for being 18 and never built one before i think i did a pretty nice job.

Heres a pic of the inside and the mess it is

Holy mother of Jesus can someone please resize the pics for me i have no clue how to fix that one ...sorry about that for whoever clicked on this link
I have the TD05 egay turbo i got for a hell of a deal so im going to go with it(which isnt the best idea i know) but what the hell?
great start, wouldnt go with the egay turbo since thats the most important part of your project
other than that youre doing great!

what are you using to beef up your fuel system? and clutch?
The fuel system i have the 440cc wrx inj. and FPR with 1:1 rising rate and i have a XTD 6 puck clutch sitting in my room that has been collecting dust since when i broke the passanger CV axel and thought i burt out the clutch without actually looking at anything fist (which was stupid but it should pay off now)

Yea, I wouldn't worry about that manifold until it cracks, but the turbo is something that would worry me. If it freezed up while driving, it could provide too much backpressure and damage the engine, or if it gets off balance some of the fins could break off and get sucked into the engine.

And +1 for pics!

Yea thats exactly what im worried about but lets pray for the best.

Im going to post up more pics of the rest of my parts and further progress soon, so stay tuned...oh and im looking to get a carbon fiber hood that will reduce the engine bay temps so if anybody has any opinions on what i should get the opinions are very welcome.
IF you want, I have a real mitsubishi evo3 big 16g in great shape that I will sell you for a decent price. Ill even include the custom 2.25 J-pipe I used when I had a 16g on my car.

and i'll vouch for the originality and the reliability of the turbo and this guy here ;)

and i definitely wouldn't base my turbo kit on "let's hope for the best" bro ...just take the extra time, spend the money ESPECIALLY since you want a reliable system that you can drive daily...

ebay = NOT reliable

we just wanna help you dude so dont take it the bad way i just want you to love what you drive not be scared of when it breaks...

just look around also on dsmtuners theres so many guys selling 14b's and 16g's there!
Your off to a good start but I agree with everyone else, get a reliable turbo that you can trust. Spend the little extra money and be safe now instead of spending hundreds down the road if something were to go wrong.

Also, I really like your sub enclosure, possible chance of some better pics and a sort of how to on how you did it. It looks great. Just send me a PM if your willing. Thanks

Does it require a manifold spacer? If so im deff interested depending on the price PM me and ill let ya know.

Thanks for that comment i need to be woken up sometimes and realize my stupidity when it comes to being cheap with some things, which i know isnt the best course of action when it comes to this kind of project. +1 for that

If i have some time ill take some pics of the make up and take appart as much as i cant without it becoming a huge project and give ya some pretty good explinations, ill do the best i can for ya
it does not require a spacer of any kind. It is the real version of what you have So it will bolt to everything just like that you have. I'd let it go for 300
Alright ill let you know as soon as i make a decision because im looking at some other choices here.
So im having a hell of a time getting the rear motor mount out to put in the intserts and im about just leave it stock cuz im getting that frustrated.

Im at a dead end now because i need to take the car for the bod work and it needs to be in running order. I think im going o install the turbo and hook everything up to it and leave the cold air intake in and stock injectors so she can run..hopefully the turbo doesnt stall her out being restrictive or something.
It's not going to stall out from being restrictive. Make sure you hook up a boost gauge if you're going to drive it at all. You don't want to hit boost unexpectedly and possibly jeopardize you're motor just to get it to a body shop!

Save you're worries and just get it flatbedded. Do the turbo work later.
just hook up the exhaust side only bro! keep your original intake on (or if youre running cold air...keep that on) and only run the exhaust side of the turbo...my brother did that with his car for 2 weeks before finishing the project! this way the car is still N/A because only the exhaust turbine is used ;)

then when the body work is done, you can hook up the air side, and all the fuel and water and oil lines etc etc etc.

PLUS I'd deff get the Walbro 255, i also hope you're getting beefier injectors as well...and if you haven't gotten anything for the oil feed line to hook up to the oil pressure sensor, i'd look into the greddy adapter on tearstone's website!!!
Yea im going to move it on my trailer but i need to drive it up on...im not driving it all the way to the body shop its like 30 min away (the guy does incredible work that why so far away)

Yea thats exactly what i was going to do with leaving the exhaust side only hooked up...but im going to hook up all the oil lines and water lines with the compressor on and all that just no intercooler piping hooked up to the throttle body

I need the oil feed line but im going to be getting that local thanks tho...oh and im doing the 440cc WRX inj. and FPR of course (i think i mentioned that earlier)
